Paul Rides A Sandworm & Raises A Vengeful Desert Army
May 7, 2023
After Denis Villeneuve wowed audiences with Dune, the first Dune: Part Two trailer has arrived, bringing Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) back to the big screen and promising more brutal and chilling action. Following the events of the first film, Dune 2 will see Paul Atreides adjust to life with the Fremen, the people native to Arrakis, as he plots revenge against the Harkonnens. The project, which comes to theaters on November 3, adapts the second half of the iconic Frank Herbert novel Dune, which was originally published in 1965.
Now, Warner Bros. has provided the first glimpse at Paul’s journey to vengeance, releasing the first trailer for the Dune sequel after it was previewed at CinemaCon a few weeks ago.
The new trailer is epic, but it opens on a small moment of peace where Paul and Chani (Zendaya) flirt while looking over a sea of sand dunes. Only after this sweet moment, where Paul envisions Arrakis as a dazzling sea, does the trailer go big, introducing new villain Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler) and some epic action, including Paul learning how to ride a sand worm and raising an army.

The Storyline Of Dune: Part Two Explained
Because it’s adapting the second half of the novel, Dune: Part Two will pick up more or less exactly following the Dune: Part One ending. That film ended with Paul and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) being rescued by the Fremen after escaping the Harkonnens’ attack on their compound. Paul proved his worth by defeating the warrior Jamis (Babs Olusanmokun) in battle in the brief sequence, which properly introduced Fremen tribal leader Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and Chani, who had previously appeared in several of Paul’s visions.
Although he proved himself worthy of joining the Fremen, the Dune: Part Two trailer teases that Paul has a long road ahead of him. While many scenes in the first film teased that he is the messianic figure the Fremen have been waiting for, he will have to prove himself in many ways. This includes riding the sand worm, which the trailer reveals he will do successfully, impressing the gathered masses.
The Dune: Part Two cast will also introduce more major figures from the book like Feyd-Rautha and Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh). While it is not known exactly how faithful the film will be to the novel, it will most likely retain their most important plot functions. This means that Feyd-Rautha will be a major antagonist and a dark mirror to Paul, providing a huge obstacle to his attempted revenge on the Harkonnens.
