‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Trailer Reveals DCU Debut WIll Feature ‘Superman’ Stars
May 14, 2025
It’s been a long wait, but Peacemaker Season 2 is finally just around the corner. The first season of the Max original series premiered in 2022, and series writer and creator James Gunn has had a lot on his plate since then. Aside from becoming the co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, Gunn was also responsible for writing the first season of Creature Commandos and writing and directing the first film in the new DC universe continuity, Superman. On top of that, Gunn wrote the entirety of Peacemaker Season 2, and now fans have their first look at the new season, which seems more connected to the DCU than ever before.
The trailer, which can be viewed below, focuses on Chris (John Cena) and the rest of the Project Butterfly team (who refer to themselves as the 11th Street Kids) after they saved the world in Season 1. Unfortunately for Chris, no one else seems to care about his heroic feats, setting the stage for what will undoubtedly be a hilarious and action-packed second season as Peacemaker moves forward with a newfound sense of purpose.

The director took to social media to celebrate the comic debut of Mr. Terrific with a new behind-the-scenes look.
Returning cast members, including Steve Agee as John Economos, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, will also be trying to find a way forward following the events of the first season. While no new threat or villain is highlighted in the trailer, Frank Grillo returns as Rick Flag Sr. The character was first introduced in Creature Commandos, and Flag Sr. is clearly out for vengeance after Peacemaker killed his son in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Is More Interconnected to the DCU Than Ever Before
Max
Now that James Gunn is in charge of shaping the future DC continuity and the projects getting made, it’s no surprise that the second season of Peacemaker is already referencing the broader world of DC. The opening scene of the new trailer shows Peacemaker auditioning for the superhero team called Justice Gang spearheaded by Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), with Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) also part of the interview process. It’s a hilarious moment that not only shows Peacemaker is connected to films like Superman, but also plays into the character development for this new season.
While all of the action shots in the trailer are incredibly exciting, it’s the final scene that will get people talking. Seemingly taking place in the pocket dimension introduced in Season 1, the final scene shows Chris walking through a door that takes him to another dimension, where another Peacemaker holds him at gunpoint. It’s unclear how much of the season could involve alternate dimensions, but it’s a compelling way to end a trailer and get fans interested in the new season.
James Gunn wrote all the episodes for this new season and directed three, further cementing his passion for the character. The first season of Peacemaker had the perfect balance of comedy and genuinely heartfelt character moments, with the show establishing the ensemble at the heart of it as a rag-tag group of friends ready to try and save the world. It will be interesting to see the direction Gunn takes them in with Season 2, and how much it connects to his overall plan for the new DC Universe.
