That’s the hope behind “Superfakes,” a new series announced today by Peacock. Ju serves as creator, showrunner, writer and executive producer on the series, about a small-time Chinatown counterfeit dealer willing to take dangerous risks for a better life for her and her family. Josh and Benny Safdie also serve as executive producers on the project with Howard Klein, Olivia Gerke, Ronald Bronstein, and Eli Bush. A24 co-produces with UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Superfakes,” courtesy of Peacock:
SUPERFAKES is a crime drama series that follows a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who enters a dangerous black market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.
While Ju’s biggest success comes from the Emmy-winning “Beef,” she has history with Peacock, as she served as a writer and consulting producer on “Poker Face.” Season 2 of the Natasha Lyonne-starring series premieres on the streamer later this year.
As for the Safdies, each brother is busy at work directing a respective film: “The Smashing Machine“ for Benny and “Marty Supreme“ for Josh, both backed by A24. On the acting side, Benny will reunite with Christopher Nolan again for his upcoming blockbuster based on “The Odyssey.” Both brothers’ films will hit theaters later this year.
As for when “Superfakes” will hit Peacock? Stay tuned on that, but since it was only just announced, it likely won’t premiere until 2026.
