Quantumania First Reactions Call it Marvel’s Star Wars & the Best Since Avangers: Endgame

Apr 29, 2023

The first reactions to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are in. So, is Phase 5 of the MCU off to a solid start, or is the third Ant-Man outing another middling Marvel effort? Well, it certainly sounds like the former, with these early reactions calling Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Marvel’s Star Wars and declaring it the best installment since Avengers: Endgame.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania officially kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and finds superhero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne returning to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together with Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures, and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. And it sounds like it pushes those limits with much success…

Jonathan Majors as Kang is Hailed the Best Marvel Supervillain of All Time

Marvel Studios

A lot of the praise directed at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been sent towards Loki and Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. The actor, who has become a seriously hot property in Hollywood in a very short space of time, is all set to be the next big bad of the MCU, and will battle The Avengers in 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. And based on these reactions, he is more than up to the challenge.

While there are some criticisms aimed at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with some critics lamenting the loss of humor and finding that the Ant-Man threequel cannot keep up with its own ambition, overall, the reactions are overwhelmingly positive. Which should bode well for both Phase 5 and the introduction of the new villain.

Directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay by Jeff Loveness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, aka Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, as well as David Dastmalchian, William Jackson Harper, Katy O’Brian, Bill Murray, Randall Park, and Corey Stoll.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released on Feb. 17 as the MCU’s first film of Phase Five. Next up is another sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, followed by The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and the Blade reboot on the big screen, and What If…? Season 2, Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2, Ironheart, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again on the small screen.
