Rachel Weisz Stars In Series Remake Of David Cronenberg’s Mind-Bending Film

It’s not often we get new David Cronenberg material. And while the upcoming series, “Dead Ringers,” isn’t directed by the legendary filmmaker, his DNA is still all over it, as it is a remake of the 1988 film of the same name. It’s just this time, there are other filmmakers involved in bringing his mind-bending story to life.

“Dead Ringers” is a series remake of David Cronenberg’s 1988 film, which stars Jeremy Irons in the roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle. The upcoming series will star Rachel Weisz as the Mantle twins, alongside Britne Oldford, Poppy Liu, Michael Chernus, Jennifer Ehle, and Emily Meade.
The limited series will comprise six episodes, directed by “Martha Marcy May Marlene’s” Sean Durkin, Karyn Kusama (“Jennifer’s Body“), Karena Evans (“P-Valley“), and Lauren Wolkstein (“A Friend of the Family”).
Its plot synopsis reads, “A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers will feature Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.”

Produced by Weisz, Durkin, Alice Birch, Stacy O’Neil, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, Erica Kay, Anne Carey, Polly Stokes, James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall, all six episodes of “Dead Ringers” will premiere on Prime Video on April 21. Watch the teaser here:
