‘Revenge of the Sith’ Chokes Out ‘Iron Man 3’ To Become One of the Highest-Grossing Sequels Ever
May 2, 2025
Revenge of the Sith has officially wrapped up its re-release, and the final film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy found immense success at the box office. After grossing $25.4 million at the box office this weekend, Hayden Christensen’s Star Wars movie then earned $2.4 million on Monday and $2.7 million on Tuesday at the domestic box office. At the time of writing, the film sits at a domestic total of $410 million and an international total of $485 million, helping its global total reach $896 million. This $410 million domestically is enough to push Revenge of the Sith past Iron Man 3 to become one of the 30 highest-grossing sequels ever. It will likely pass Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when the final numbers come in, but possibly fall short of Toy Story 3.
It’s unclear at this time if any additional screenings for Revenge of the Sith will be added, but after it’s performed so well, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney and Lucasfilm extend its run by another week or so. The Star Wars prequels were not looked on favorably upon their release, but in the 20 years since, they’ve developed a cult-like following. This mostly comes from the kids who watched these movies growing up, now adults with an added investment in the story. It’s also easier to understand the poignant and relevant messages about corruption in all the Star Wars movies, but especially the prequels, which are as much political thrillers as they are Star Wars movies. All three Star Wars prequel films were written and directed by George Lucas.
Who Stars in ‘Revenge of the Sith’?
Starring in the leading roles of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith are Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor. Both stars have returned to the franchise in the last few years, starring opposite each other once more in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Christensen also appears in Ahsoka and is confirmed to return for Ahsoka Season 2. Natalie Portman also stars in Revenge of the Sith as Padme, with Samuel L. Jackson playing the powerful Jedi, Mace Windu. Ian McDiarmid also stars in Revenge of the Sith as Palpatine, and he was even going to lead a Palpatine TV series that would have explored more of Darth Plagueis’ origins.
Revenge of the Sith is no longer playing in theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the film and watch Revenge of the Sith on Disney+.
