Rey & Kylo Ren Become True Knights In Amazing Star Wars Fanart

May 14, 2023

Rey and Kylo Ren become knights in incredible Star Wars fanart. Between Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the dynamic between Rey and Kylo Ren changed quite much. By the end of the Star Wars sequels, the once enemies fought together to take down Palpatine, and Kylo Ren died to save Rey.

Artist Lilith (@lilithsaur) shared an amazing illustration imagining Rey and Kylo Ren as actual knights, both wearing armor and carrying a sword.

The fanart highlights Rey and Kylo Ren as two opposites – Rey representing the sun, and Kylo representing the moon. Rey’s armor has the symbol of the Jedi Order in it, while Kylo Ren’s armor features the First Order’s insignia. The illustration also showcases how Rey and Kylo were headed toward different paths during the Star Wars sequels, although they had always shared some sort of connection.

The Force Dyad Stands As A Symbol Of The Balance Of The Force

The Force Awakens presented Rey and Kylo as the classic Star Wars hero and Star Wars villain, respectively. Star Wars: The Last Jedi made their dynamic a bit more complicated, showing that Rey and Kylo shared a very strong bond. Although Snoke was working from the shadows to make that connection stronger, The Last Jedi hinted at the fates of Rey and Kylo Ren being intertwined.

The Last Jedi also suggested that a romantic relationship between the Jedi and the leader of the Knights of Ren could happen, a dynamic that Star Wars had not explored since Knights of the Old Republic’s Revan and Bastilla. The Rise of Skywalker retconned The Last Jedi on many levels but doubled down on the bond between Rey and Kylo. The final entry in the Star Wars sequels revealed that Rey and Ben were a Force Dyad, an extremely rare example of two Force-sensitive whose bond makes them incredibly strong.

The Star Wars canon has since offered more insight into The Rise of Skywalker’s Force Dyad concept. Even before The Rise of Skywalker, the idea of “two sides” had always been central to Star Wars lore. The Sith Rule of Two, for example. The dichotomy of the Force itself, light and dark, seems to be the base for the Force Dyad concept. Presumably, a Force Dyad requires a balance between the dark side of the Force and the light, which this fanart perfectly captures.
