Robert De Niro Plays A Former U.S. President In Upcoming Series Coming February
Dec 23, 2024
Robert De Niro is no stranger to expressing his political views in the public sphere and has been doing so for a long time. It’s only natural, then, that he would eventually take a crack at playing the President of the United States. Interestingly enough, the one he’s portraying in the upcoming Netflix series “Zero Day” has already finished his term but is now at the center of attention in the aftermath of a global cyberattack.

The series was created by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and Michael S. Schmidt and is directed by Lesli Linka Glatter. Alongside De Niro, “Zero Day” boasts an all-star cast comprised of Angela Bassett, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and McKinley Belcher III.
In describing what the show will focus on, Oppenheim says that “Zero Day” looks at “the cost of power for those who are asked to take on these enormous challenges — what it means for them personally, and what it means for their families.”
Newman praised how involved De Niro was in bringing the show to life, stating that he “very much became our partner in this process — very hands-on, very involved, read everything at every stage, and it’s been an incredible honor and privilege. You can count on one hand the actors and actresses in history who bring this level of gravitas, pedigree, and talent to their work.”
