Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie Trailer Teases NFL Star Travis Kelce
Sep 5, 2024
Ryan Murphy has unleashed a brand-new trailer for Grotesquerie, a hardcore religious horror series that features the acting debut of an NFL superstar. FX’s Grotesquerie follows Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) as she investigates increasingly unholy crimes in a small community. A previous teaser revealed a sinister tone over a visually religious backdrop, but the new trailer reveals the main cast, led by Niecy Nash-Betts, as well as the first acting role for NFL tight end Travis Kelce.
Before attempting a three-peat with reigning NFL Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce appears in the Grotesquerie trailer for a few brief moments. The two minutes of footage is filled with religious imagery and intriguing performances, particularly by Micaela Diamond. The cast also features Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Raven Goodwin. Watch the official trailer below:
In Grotesquerie, an unholy nightmare unfolds in a small community, and it’s up to Niecy Nash-Betts’ detective Lois Tyron to stop what her character describes in the trailer as “the end of times.” Travis Kelce’s exact role has not been revealed, but expect his character to play a role in the sinister occurrences in Grotesquerie. Check out the official synopsis below:
“A series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon (Nash-Betts) feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone—or something—is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan (Diamond), a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.”
Future NFL Hall of Famer Travis Kelce Turns to Acting
Widely recognized as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce is expected to retire from the sport within the next few years, so he’s getting ahead of it by transitioning to an acting career in the meantime. He’s previously appeared on reality television, including his dating show called Catching Kelce, but becoming a serious actor is now a priority for Kelce (in addition to being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, of course). After Grotesquerie, he already has his next acting gigs lined up, which include an appearance in Happy Gilmore 2 and the lead role in Loose Cannons, an action comedy produced by John Wick director Chad Stahelski.
Kelce currently hosts a podcast called “New Heights” alongside brother Jason Kelce, a legendary Philadelphia Eagles player who just retired from the NFL. During a podcast episode (via ABC News), the athlete-turned-actor discussed getting hired by Ryan Murphy, who he described as an “unbelievable writer, director, producer, all of the above.” Kelce didn’t get into details, but revealed he has a “big role” and hopes he did the character and overall series justice.
“He seemed very confident that I’d be able to do this, and he kinda injected that in me the first conversation that we had. So hopefully I don’t bomb this for him.”
Grotesquerie releases on FX on September 25.
