Ryan Reynolds Drops Cryptic Tease That Deadpool Could Join AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY — GeekTyrant
Aug 17, 2025
It looks like Ryan Reynolds may have just thrown Marvel fans into a frenzy with one cryptic Instagram post.Reynolds recently shared an image of the iconic Avengers logo, but with a red “A” spray-painted over it. The style is exactly what you’d expect from Deadpool. No caption. No context. Just enough to send the MCU corner of the internet spiraling into speculation.Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Marvel revealed the Doomsday cast earlier this year, loaded with returning superheroes, but there’s been no official word on Deadpool’s involvement… until maybe now. What makes this tease even juicier is that Reynolds recently played down the idea of joining the Avengers. When asked if Deadpool and Wolverine might show up in Doomsday or Secret Wars, he kept it vague, saying he had no updates. But during a previous interview, Reynolds made his feelings on Deadpool’s team affiliations crystal clear:“There are no updates to share just yet, but I trust Kevin and Lou D’Esposito [a filmmaker and Marvel executive producer] with my life. The character trait I love most about Deadpool is that he’s a fanboy.“His enthusiasm and longing to be part of a team is really endearing to me. It’s his overarching wish-fulfillment story. But I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man. If he becomes either, we’re at the end.”And just when you thought that sounded like a definitive “no,” Reynolds said:“Just the opposite! I think Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider.”Reynolds also got a little deeper about what makes the Merc with a Mouth tick:“His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted.“His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies.”If Deadpool does pop up in the Avengers lineup, don’t expect him to be playing nice for long, or ever officially join the Avengers club. For now, that Instagram post is all we have to go on, but with the MCU constantly weaving its characters together, the possibility of him joining the film is a big possibility.
