Deadpool & Wolverine
is set to release on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynoldshas declared that there is only one Wolverine and believes the reason for that is that no one can pull off the role as well as Hugh Jackman. The pair will embark on an adventure together in this month’s MCU sequel Deadpool & Wolverine, with Reynolds heaping praise on Jackman’s portrayal of the beloved X-Men character during a fan event in Berlin, Germany.
“There’s only been one Wolverine, the reason is no one can do it except him. So, the fact that he said “yes” and that he wanted to do this was…”
While Reynolds was drowned out by the cheering crowd, you can tell by his expression (via @CineGeekNews) that he has nothing but wonderful things to say about his co-star. Who likely saved the third Deadpool 3 from cancellation. Of course, being the class act that he is, Hugh Jackman returned the favor, heaping praise on Reynolds and pointing out that he too is the only actor to have played a Marvel icon in live-action.
“He’s the most self-deprecating person and humble person I’ve ever met but apparently there’s only been one Deadpool.”

Jackman has now played Wolverine since the first X-Men movie way back in 2000, with no other actor having portrayed the character on either the big or small screen. While it was initially thought that 2017’s Logan would be his final outing, he will instead join the multiversal madness that is the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine. But, Reynolds’ belief that no one but Jackman can play Wolverine is likely to be tested soon, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealing recently that the X-Men will now be integrated into the MCU. So, unless they plan to use Jackman’s iteration (or, shock, not use Wolverine) another actor will soon be tasked with donning the spiky hair and claws.
Hugh Jackman Says Wolverine Will Be Different in Deadpool 3
While some were disappointed to learn of Jackman’s return following the perfect conclusion in Logan, the actor has promised fans that Deadpool & Wolverine will allow him to do something “new and fresh” with the character.
“I instinctively knew that Deadpool was going to allow us to get to a different side of the [Wolverine] character than I’ve ever played before, in every way, from emotion, humor, dialogue, and action. Everything felt new and fresh to me. And I’d be sharing it with Ryan and Shawn, who are two of my best friends. The three of us together are like the Three Amigos. There was not a day where I wasn’t in tears laughing. I felt so rejuvenated playing the part. I mean, I’m 25 years in, man, and it feels better than ever.”
