Deadpool and Wolverine’s future in the MCU is uncertain after the release of this month’s
Deadpool & Wolverine
.

While the world waits to see Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in the new Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman will reportedly be pairing with long-time friend and collaborator Ryan Reynolds for another movie outside the superhero genre. After ‘retiring’ from the role with James Mangold’s Logan in 2017, Marvel fans thought they’d never see Jackman’s iconic character team up with Reynolds’ beloved iteration of Deadpool. After much online teasing, the pair confirmed that Jackman would be returning to the role again for Deadpool & Wolverine. The long online build-up cemented Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as having one of the most popular online friendships, and fans are now desperate to see the pair work together on more movies in the future.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman both teased that they’re already working on a new project together. Reynolds couldn’t reveal any plot details about the new project and didn’t outline what form the new project would take. It could be a movie, a new show, or even a play. Reynolds teased:

“We have one we’re looking to do soon.”

During the conversation, the actor discussed why his friendship with Hugh Jackman carries over to the screen so well. As much as they mercilessly tease each other online, Reynolds said that they are constantly rooting for each other, and are proud of each other’s careers. Reynolds explained:

“I would say that [ours] is like any relationship that is successful and works: It’s that two parties are rooting for each other. I’m always rooting for Hugh to score and win. I also know the infinite nuance of his heart and his mind and who he is. I can say firsthand that he’s a person who’s not just worth rooting for, he’s somebody who’s impossible to not root for.”

Will Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman Return to the MCU Again After Deadpool & Wolverine?

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have been very open about their belief that they would never play their respective characters again. Both actors portrayed their X-Men characters at a time when the IP rights were owned by 20th Century Fox. After Marvel Studios bought back the rights to the characters, a lot of characters’ fates were left uncertain.

While Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have been granted new life within the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine, their characters’ futures are currently unknown after the movie’s release. Considering both characters are near-immortal, there is the potential for them to become new mainstays in the MCU, but neither Reynolds nor Jackman have confirmed if they will play the characters again after Deadpool & Wolverine.
