Sabrina Carpenter Makes Surprise Appearance on ‘BBC Maestro’ (Exclusive)

Dec 11, 2024

Pop girlie of the year and certified hit producer Sabrina Carpenter has made a surprise appearance on Eric Vetro’s BBC Maestro course, The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal.

A special bonus lesson with the singing coach, Songwriting With Sabrina Carpenter, shows the pair diving into the art of crafting music, featuring the Short n’ Sweet singer’s approach to lyrics, melody and storytelling, and in particular her single “Please Please Please.”

“I think sonically, [that track] is something that I love so much,” Carpenter says in the clip provided to THR. “It’s called ‘Please, Please, Please’…. I was so excited when I wrote that song because it felt like a fraction of me that I had been waiting to not only write, but to put out and then perform, and then it just it [made] me so excited for the rest of the project, because it feels very aligned with all the music I grew up listening to that I love, but also very much myself.

“And that song was obviously based on real-life events,” she adds, nodding to her rumored relationship with Irish star Barry Keoghan, who featured in the song’s music video. Vetro adds: “I was doing a lesson with Charlie Puth, he’s like, ‘By the way, that song, I know you know Sabrina really well. Will you tell her? That song is unbelievable. It’s so great.’”

The bonus episode drops Monday, just after Carpenter’s highly anticipated Netflix Christmas special.

Vetro is a singing coach to the stars and worked with both Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey ahead of their performances in Wicked. His BBC Maestro course is taught via bite-size lessons, delving into warm-up techniques, strengthening voice and gaining flexibility, improving vocal range, singing in tune, vocal postures and communicating lyrics.

The course has launched on BBC Maestro.
