says that information is “above his pay grade.”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
sequel.
Fans loved 2021’s
Shang-Chi
, as shown by high ratings, even though it didn’t perform all that well at the box office.

Will Shang-Chi finally return to the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe? Phase 4 of the MCU might have been a real disappointment for the franchise, but Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was undoubtedly a high point. But Shang-Chi star Simu Liu and has been a no-show in Marvel projects since 2021. However, with two Avengers movies on the horizon, it’s quite possible Shang-Chi will make an appearance in one or both. And Liu addressed his potential involvement in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty at the premiere of his new film, Arthur the King. Liu said while speaking with ComicBook.com:

“Oh man, I don’t know to be honest, I mean, those things are so above my pay grade. I just wanna continue to be a fan of it. You know, when I get a call of like, ‘Hey, this is what your in and this is where you’re going to show up. And, this is when you’re going to be need to be blacked out for.’ That’s kind of generally what tends to happen. But, you know Destin [Daniel Cretton] is such a special filmmaker, and we’re very happy to have him on the sequel. So, he’ll be working on that, and we’re really excited to see what he comes up with. I think he’s going to do a brilliant job.”

Shang-Chi 2 bodes well for the character also returning to do battle during The Kang Dynasty after his long on-screen absence. While there aren’t many details, at the time of this writing, Liu will team up again with Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings director and co-writer Destin Daniel Cretton for the sequel.

Simu Liu Advocates for Shang-Chi 2
Marvel Studios

While Destin Daniel Cretton busily works on the upcoming Disney+ miniseries Wonder Man, his Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings collaborator, actor Simu Liu, has been busy advocating for the long-awaited follow-up to the 2021 film. “Give the people a sequel,” Liu said. And while some others might be suffering from superhero fatigue, Liu is not one of them. The Shang-Chi star is an “unabashed” fan of the genre and supports it wholeheartedly. Liu recently wrote in a post on his Threads account:

“I have and always will be an unabashed fan of superhero movies as a genre. There’s a variance for sure, and I hear everyone’s gripes about the overuse of CGI… but consider, in addition to all the spectacular elements, they are one of the few spaces where a person of color can be the main character. Science fiction and fantasy movies ask us to imagine a world where anything is possible. So, for what it’s worth, I hope the genre sustains and survives.”

Related Will Shang-Chi Appear in the MCU Before the Ten Rings Sequel? It might be some time until Shang-Chi gets a proper sequel, why is it taking so long and when will audiences see the character again?

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ “A” CinemaScore, along with its nearly perfect Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 98%, clearly indicates how the fans felt about the MCU’s Phase 4 film. Critics also enjoyed the movie (92% Tomatometer rating), but Shang-Chi only made $432 million at the worldwide box office. However, keep in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic arguably played a part in the movie’s performance in cinemas.
