She-Ra Live-Action Series Nabs Surprising Screenwriter

Oct 9, 2024

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the Netflix reboot of the 1980s animated show, has proven to reinvigorate audiences’ love for the franchise. The series follows Adora, the orphan twin of the iconic He-Man character, as she finds a magical sword and becomes the warrior She-Ra. With the inclusion of several queer characters, including Adora herself, and a vibrant art style, the series became a hit spanning five seasons. Now that the warrior and her magical sword have won a place in modern generations’ hearts, it’s moving into the live-action world.

The live-action She-Ra series in development with Amazon has already secured Watchmen and Westworld director Nicole Kassell and now adds a screenwriter to the team. Heidi Schreck, writer of stay play “What The Consitution Means To Me,” will write and executive produce the live-action series.

Although it might seem like Schrek is stepping into a new world, she has previously worked on the series Billions and Nurse Jackie. With her play being a finalist for the Tony Awards for 2019 Best Play and 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, She-Ra seems to be in good hands.

Could He-Man and She-Ra Meet In Live Action?

Live-action adaptations of animated series are on the rise with the success of Netflix’s One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Masters of The Universe franchise has already made its live-action debut back in 1987, but She-Ra was nowhere to be found in the Dolph Lundgren movie. With Netflix’s recent addition of the adult animation series Masters of The Universe: Revolution more eyes are on He-Man and She-Ra than ever.

Since Amazon MGM announced the live-action He-Man film Masters of The Universe set to release on June 5, 2026, there’s hope that the two will cross paths in future live-action projects. As the two projects continue their development, fans can only hope that the twins will reunite at some point. After many years of trying to bring back the Masters of the Universe franchise to a live-action arena, it seems that this time it could actually happen – which is good for fans of both He-Man and She-Ra.

Related Why a Live-Action Masters of the Universe Reboot Film Hasn’t Been Made The Live-Action Masters of the Universe reboot film has been stuck in development hell for nearly twenty years.

While there have been very few details released about what story either project could follow, many fans are hopeful that the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie will be more faithful to the 1980s cartoon series and really embrace the characters and landscape of Eternia, unlike the previous movie which mostly ditched its alternate universe to base most of the action on Earth. The same can be said for She-Ra’s series, as anything less than a full embracing of the franchise’s setting and quirks could spell disaster for the franchise’s next chapter.

Release Date November 16, 2018 Seasons 4
