Showtime’s Cult Hit Series Returns On March 24, Premieres On-Air On March 26
Mar 9, 2023
Following its November 2021 premiere, Showtime‘s “Yellowjackets” gradually became one of TV’s most talked about new series. And the praise was so high for the show that Showtime renewed it for a second season before the Season One finale. Now, after a year-long wait, “Yellowjackets” returns, with Season 2 starting on March 26.

Here’s the show’s premise for the uninitiated: in 1996, a plane carrying a New Jersey high school girls’ soccer team crashes in Canada coming back from a national tournament, leaving the survivors stranded in the wilderness for nineteen months. 25 years later, the survivors have seemingly moved on from the traumatic event. But someone knows deep-buried secrets about what happened during that year and a half, and is out to bring them to light. So what happened out there in the wilderness — murder, cannibalism, cults, or worse?
“Yellowjackets” Season 2 sees its impressive ensemble cast return. Melanie Lynskey, Cristina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis lead a cast that also includes Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Nélisse, Sammi Hanratty, and Sophie Thatcher. Kevin Alves also returns for Season 2, now as a series regular.
But the show’s new cast members may prove more intriuging. Elijah Wood joins the cast as a citizen detective, while Lauren Ambrose plays the adult version of Liv Hewson‘s Van. Other “Yellowjackets” newcomers this season include Simone Kessell, Jason Ritter, Nia Sondaya (who replaces Keeya King as teen Akilah), Nicole Maines, and François Arnaud.
So, will “Yellowjackets” Season 2 live up to the hype? The first season notched 7 Emmy noms last year, a slew of ecstatic write-ups from critics, and boasts a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, it’s safe to say the stakes are high for Showtime’s series (which is already renewed for a third season). “Yellowjackets” Season 2 starts streaming on Showtime on March 24, then premieres on-air two days later on March 26.
