Smash on Trent Review: Blockbuster Burgers!
Aug 18, 2024
Stoke on Trent rarely has something to be proud of and to rave about outside of the incredible people that live in this City, sure we’re not the nicest looking city in the UK, far from, but we’ve got some real gems to explore and Smash On Trent is another to add to the list if you want that perfect meal for movie night.
This American-style fast food joint opened in North Staffordshire in Fenton a few years ago and as of April this year set up another location in Burslem after having partnered with my beloved Port Vale Football Club.
After a few orders I’m slowly working my way through the menu and have decided that we certainly have a contender to rival that of Betsy’s in Hanley which was initially for me the best burger in Stoke On Trent but I think the tide has changed in one area and that’s flavour.
Whilst Betsy’s is the clear winner in terms of affordability and what you get for your money Smash on Trent reigns supreme in the taste department with outstanding flavours and very unique menu options that stand them apart from the competition.
Where it does fall however is on its pricing as £10 (or thereabouts) for a burger on its own without fries is quite staggering but after tasting it you’ll certainly understand why it’s priced that way.
The burgers are well-sized and the portion sizes are very big especially when it comes to their loaded fries and hotshots so whilst you’re paying quite a lot more than you normally would for one burger (think event prices) you certainly get rewarded back in flavour and quality of product.
Paying a little more for a lot better is a decision only you can make when it comes to Smash on Trent.
For my recent Uber Eats order my Original Burger (2 freshly grounded beef patties, lettuce, tomatoes, pickle, cheese and house sauce), Sweet Potato Fries and Mango Habanero dip came to a total of £19.38 including delivery and service charges. That’s quite astounding but it does seem more expensive on the Uber Eats app compared to in-store. In-store my order would have been under £11 which is much more palatable.
Uber Eats Smash on Trent Prices
£9.45 – Original Burger
£4.75 – Sweet Potato Fries
£0.75 – Mango Habanero Dip
Total (minus service charges/delivery) – £14.95
Smash on Trent In-Store Menu Prices
£6.95 – Original Burger
£3.50 – Sweet Potato Fries
£0.50 – Mango Habanero Dip
Total – £10.95
But after taking one bite of my burger I quickly forgot about the cost and got lost in a world of flavour and good fresh quality meat partnered with a lovely house sauce.
Tomatoes on a burger are a sin for me as they always wet the bun too much and make things soggy and it’s usually a sin I can rarely forgive as I’m just picky but on this particular burger, it worked, it just worked.
Smash On Trent delivers big city-style burgers to our humble little city and clearly, people don’t mind paying extra for them as their popularity just keeps growing and growing.
If you’re local to Fenton or Burslem then I’d highly recommend stopping by the restaurants, there are seats inside, the food is cheaper than delivery and you’ll get a good meal, BUT, if it’s movie night and you don’t mind splashing the cash, you know what to do!
