Sophia Bush Joins Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 in Key Surgical Role

Oct 19, 2024

It appears that Sophia Bush is getting back into medicine. After playing Dr. Samantha “Sam” Griffith on the short-lived CBS medical drama Good Sam in 2022, the actress will be arriving at a fairly more popular hospital over at ABC. Seattle Grace is in need of a trauma surgeon and the One Tree Hill actress has answered the call, as Bush joins the cast of Grey’s Anatomy Season 21.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bush is joining Season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Cass Beckman, described as a trauma surgeon who is “amiable, fun and a little messy around the edges.” The character is married to cardiothoracic surgeon David Beckman, who practices at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, while Cass brings her talents to Seattle Presbyterian Hospital. The character is recurring as of now and will be introduced in Episode 6. As of now, the character of David Beckman has not been cast.

Bush is obviously excited about joining the Grey’s team as she took to her Instagram page to post a video, fully in scrubs. The caption on her post reads, “I just wasn’t done with my scrubs,” which appears to be a reference to her time on Good Sam, which only lasted for one 13-episode season on CBS.

Sophia Bush Has Been a Mainstay on Television

Sophia Bush is no stranger to television. The actress rose to fame in 2003 when she was cast as Brooke Davis in the popular teen series One Tree Hill. The show was integral to The WB and later the CW across its nine seasons and 187 episodes. Streaming has kept the show relevant in subsequent years, leading to the announcement of a sequel series for Netflix that is in development with Bush’s involvement.

Following the single-season run of the CBS sitcom Partners, Bush joined Chicago P.D. as Detective Erin Lindsay. The actress stayed on the show for four seasons but left at the end of Season 4. She later cited “abusive behavior” on set as her reason for leaving, something she has been vocal about as her acting career has progressed, particularly with her work for the Time’s Up movement. As Erin Lindsay, the actress also crossed over to other shows from the franchise, including Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, and she occasionally popped up in Law & Order: SVU.

Bush has also appeared in several feature films, including John Tucker Must Die, Stay Alive, the 2007 remake of The Hitcher, The Narrows, and Chalet Girl. There has been talk of a John Tucker Must Die sequel recently, with the actress expressing that she would love to be involved. Bush is also the co-host of the Drama Queens podcast alongside her former One Tree Hill co-stars Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz.

Sophia Bush will make her first appearance on
Grey’s Anatomy
