Spider-Man Hangs Around in His Black Suit in New Funko Pop! Cover Figure [Exclusive]
Apr 28, 2025
Funko is keeping our favorite web-slinger in his iconic black suit for another month for the Marvel Selects line at Target. The last two releases have featured Spider-Man wearing variations on his symbiote suit from the comics and a memorable arc of the 1994 animated series, highlighting different takes on how the hero handled the costume. This latest Pop! comic cover figure now pays homage to a long-running comic series that reunited Peter Parker with his alien black get-up — Web of Spider-Man. Collider can offer an exclusive look at the new collectible, which specifically pulls from the cover of the volume’s eighth issue, released in 1985.
Matching the art by Charles Vess, the figure is suspended upside down with his web as he swings through the city streets. The design has a vintage Spider-Man feel, with a stripped-down look reminiscent of classic Marvel Comics. Despite being the third symbiote suit figure in recent memory, though, it manages to stand out thanks to that design, which captures how the costume looked during one of its earliest appearances on the page. Standing at around 4.1 inches tall and encased in the typical 7-inch-wide by 10.8-inch-tall and 3-inch-deep protective case, the collectible will be available for $29.99.
Web of Spider-Man continues the wider Alien Costume Saga of the Spider-Man comics, which ran from 1984 through 1985 and spanned across multiple comic runs from the main Amazing Spider-Man to Marvel Team-Up. The entire storyline itself came about after the wallcrawler first received his symbiote suit during the Secret Wars plot, and followed Peter’s struggles with the costume as it tried to permanently bond with him and take over his life. Issue #8, however, is a bit less focused on Peter and instead introduces local superhero Frank Hopkins, aka the Smithville Thunderbolt. After being thrown into the junkyard while trying to save his co-worker Irving, the mild-mannered man stumbles across a space rock that gives him super strength, which he uses to help people around the town. Peter is asked to go get pictures of the Thunderbolt for the Daily Bugle, only to have to get involved as Spider-Man when the scoop becomes much more complicated than it initially seems.
Will We Ever See Spider-Man’s Symbiote Suit in the MCU?
Outside of video games and animated series, viewers haven’t seen Spider-Man don his cool black suit since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 back in 2007. In the MCU, the closest we’ve been to seeing the symbiote try to bond with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker came at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home where Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom make a brief appearance, only to be sent back to the Sony universe and leave a bit of symbiote behind. This seemed to hint at a future crossover between the two universes, or, at the very least, an explanation for how the alien substance could exist in the current Peter’s world, but Hardy recently clarified that the plans for a proper union never materialized. With Secret Wars set to be adapted to the big screen in 2027, it remains possible, though, that Anthony and Joe Russo could follow the comics and bring the costume to the big Avengers team-up.
In the meantime, the Web of Spider-Man Funko Pop! comic cover figure will be available in person at Target and online through the Marvel Selects page soon. Get an exclusive look at the black-suited Spidey in the gallery above.
