‘Star Trek’ Fans Celebrate William Shatner’s 94th Birthday
Mar 25, 2025
William Shatner celebrated his birthday with heartfelt messages from Star Trek fans around the world. On March 22, 2025, the actor turned 94 years old and saw posts pour in from every generation of fans of the legendary science fiction franchise. Shatner, who brought Captain James T. Kirk to life in Star Trek: The Original Series, starred as the character in all three seasons of the series. Although it should’ve lasted longer, its impact will be around for the next century and beyond.
On Instagram, Shatner posted an iconic picture of himself with the caption: “As I complete my 94th lap around the sun, I am filled with the wonder and awe of life. Thank you, my friends, for making my life so special.” There were many comments from fans sharing memories of their first time watching Captain Kirk, and would be excited if he returned to the role. From posting Captain Kirk GIFs to talking about their favorite episodes, reading the comments feels like going down memory lane. One user, markit90x, said, “Happy birthday to the one true GOAT, the standard by which all who come shall be measured.”

William Shatner thinks reprising the role of James T. Kirk is “an intriguing idea,” but he is not going to return for just a cameo.

William Shatner’s ‘Twilight Zone’ Episode Is As Iconic As Captain Kirk
In Star Trek: The Original Series, Shatner had to battle a Gorn and other types of creatures, and in Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, there was one episode where he just couldn’t seem to get away from a monster. Although the classic actor could be seen in two episodes of the series, “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” created another iconic Shatner character. In the season five episode, Shatner plays Robert Wilson, a man recovering from a nervous breakdown that occurred on a flight six months prior to the one he was on.
During the flight, Robert witnesses a gremlin on the wing of their airplane messing with the engine. No one else can see the gremlin and concludes that Robert is suffering another breakdown. Robert later steals a weapon from a police officer, straps himself in, opens the window, and shoots at the gremlin. At the end, Robert is taken away, but the camera pans to the damaged engine, which no one else seems to notice.
In an industry where it’s easy to become a flash in the pan, William Shatner has continued to endure and create a litany of iconic characters in his 94 years. Anyone who can last that long in Hollywood deserves at least a little celebration, don’t you think?
