The most iconic weapon in the entire Star Wars franchise, one would think the release of a new Anakin Skywalker lightsaber wouldn’t be all that exciting. After all, it was one of the first lightsabers to debut in 1977’s A New Hope. However, Disney’s newest Legacy Lightsaber is the exact Skywalker saber I’ve been dreaming of since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith.
Debuting on May 6th as part of a special Revenge of the Sith 20th-anniversary sale, Disney has released the brand-new Anakin Skywalker (Ahsoka’s Vision) Legacy Lightsaber. The new lightsaber replica bundle was available for purchase online for a limited time, and is currently being sold at the Disney parks in Galaxy’s Edge for $220 (tax not included). While Disney has released variants of the iconic Skywalker saber before, this new model will likely be Star Wars fans’ favorite thanks to one key feature. Having recently purchased one myself, here’s a hands-on review of Disney’s new Anakin Skywalker (Ahsoka’s Vision) lightsaber.

Anakin Skywalker Legacy Lightsaber (Ahsoka’s Vision)

This new Anakin Skywalker Legacy Lightsaber is so exciting because of its color-changing blade, switching from Anakin’s traditional blue to Darth Vader’s sinister red. Naturally, this feature ties into Anakin’s fall to the dark side in Revenge of the Sith where the Chosen One fell to the dark side at the dawn of the Empire. Following Anakin’s duel with Obi-Wan on Mustafar and Skywalker’s defeat, Kenobi took Anakin’s lightsaber to eventually be inherited by his son Luke. This forced Vader to construct a brand-new lightsaber in Revenge of the Sith’s aftermath.
However, audiences did get to see Anakin Skywalker’s classic lightsaber hilt with a red blade in 2023’s Ahsoka. Facing the spirit of her former master in the World Between Worlds, Ahsoka saw Anakin flashing between his normal Jedi self and the black-armored Darth Vader. His lightsaber also changed from blue to red as they dueled, forcing Ahsoka to confront her past and challenging her lack of conviction to the Jedi path. As such, this new Anakin Skywalker (Ahsoka’s Vision) Legacy Lightsaber is effectively a canonical replica. As such, the box art is quite exciting, especially the half-blue and half-red Jedi Order symbol.

Screen-Accurate Details, Easy Controls, And Two Unique Sound Profiles

Rather than purchasing just the hilt as with most other Legacy Lightsabers, the new Anakin Skywalker (Ahsoka’s Vision) saber comes as a full bundle, providing everything for both display and cosplay. Beyond the hilt itself, the box also comes with a 31-inch blade, a stand, and a covertec lightsaber belt clip. There’s also an additional piece of padding with some adhesive that can be placed on the base of the stand to help prevent the bottom of the hilt from getting scratched up.

Star Wars Celebration has released an epic concept art trailer for Ahsoka season 2, confirming plot details and returning “heroes across galaxies”.

As a result, this saber is perfect for collectors who don’t yet have any of Disney’s Legacy Lightsabers or accessories. In my case, it does mean I now have an extra blade and belt clip (which isn’t necessarily the worst thing). Had there been an option to just purchase the hilt at a cheaper price, I’d have certainly done so. Regardless, the major draw is the color-changing blade. I was very happy not only with the dual colors, but also the lightsaber’s volume and distinct sound profiles for Anakin Skywalker’s blue and Darth Vader’s red blades:

Rather than just the color switching, the Anakin “mode” features a classic-sounding ignition and hums, while Vader’s has the familiar, sinister snap-hiss, mirroring how they both canonically sound in the films. Switching between blue and red is also incredibly easy for the new Anakin Skywalker Legacy Lightsaber. Shifting the gold switch up makes it blue, down is for red, while keeping it in the middle turns the saber off. Although the box art makes it seem like the saber gradually turns from blue to red, not unlike what was seen with Master Sol’s lightsaber at the end of Acolyte, the change is more instantaneous as you move the switch up and down.

The Verdict: The Definitive Anakin Skywalker Lightsaber

(Especially After Ahsoka)

Almost a decade prior, I purchased a much cheaper and plastic color-changing Anakin/Vader lightsaber. However, I remember how much I wished for a higher-end version like we have now. Without a doubt, I’m very pleased with the new Anakin Skywalker (Ahsoka’s Vision) lightsaber. It’s very much the definitive Anakin saber released by Disney so far, representing both sides of the Chosen One’s journey in the Star Wars timeline, and directly inspired by one of Ahsoka’s very best episodes. Although I do have other Legacy Lightsabers in my collection, I hadn’t yet secured an official Anakin saber until now. I’m certainly glad I waited.
