The first plot synopsis for Rey’s upcoming Star Wars movie, set during the New Jedi Order era, has been reportedly revealed. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars movie, which has yet to receive an official title, will see Daisy Ridley back as Rey for the first time since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm had originally revealed that Rey’s new Star Wars film would take place 15 after The Rise of Skywalker, but not much else was shared about the story.

Per issue 1355 of Production Weekly, the first synopsis for what is being referred to as “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” has been reportedly revealed, describing Rey’s role in training two Jedi apprentices, one of which could shape the future of the galaxy.

Set roughly 15 years after Rey’s victory over Palpatine at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The sequel delves into Rey’s courageous endeavor to restore the Jedi Order, where she assumes the role of a mentor to two promising young students – a girl and a boy. As her training progresses, it becomes evident that the girl possesses extraordinary abilities, destined to emerge as the future leader.

Gizmodo dispute this synopsis, claiming sources suggest this is “mostly inaccurate.” Assuming there is some truth to the synopsis for Rey’s new Star Wars movie, though, it seems to indicate Rey Skywalker may not be the movie’s main character. With only a brief mention of Palpatine and no mention of other sequel trilogy characters, this New Jedi Oder synopsis hints at a fresh start for Star Wars, now focused on new characters.

Rey’s New Jedi Order Is Taking Shape

While there is still a lot to be learned about Rey’s new Star Wars movie, including its official title, this Production Weekly update on New Jedi Order may well indicate where Star Wars is going next. When Lucasfilm first revealed that Rey’s Star Wars return would see Daisy Ridley’s character build a new Jedi Order, the possibilities for what this “new Jedi Order” could mean were endless. Would Rey actually build a new Jedi Temple with several students, or would she train a couple of Padawans? Per the reported New Jedi Order synopsis, the movie is going for the second option.

Rey training two Jedi apprentices in the New Jedi Order era sounds very exciting, especially because Star Wars has not had a proper Jedi/Padawan dynamic on the big screen in years. Most of Rey’s training happened offscreen, and her time training with Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi was only a part of a much bigger story. Instead of an “end-of-the-world” scenario like The Rise of Skywalker, this new Star Wars film might focus on Rey mentoring these two apprentices.

The mention of a girl with “extraordinary abilities” also hints at a new Star Wars story that shifts away from the usual Skywalker saga storylines. After decades of debates on who is the Chosen One or why Anakin Skywalker had such a high Midi-chlorian count, Rey’s new apprentice could be a new Star Wars protagonist with no ties to the Skywalker saga. There is no mention of a villain in the reported Star Wars movie’s plot synopsis, although it will most likely be a new character rather than an old one.
