Stephen King Wishes He’d Seen The New 2025 Horror Movie In Theaters After Sharing Very Glowing Review

Mar 11, 2025

Stephen King is one of the most popular authors of all time. Since publishing his first novel, Carrie, in 1974, the author has earned the nickname the “King of Horror.” Stephen King’s best books include the aforementioned Carrie, as well as The Shining, The Stand, It, Misery, Doctor Sleep, and countless others. Throughout his career, King has published over 60 novels and novellas, many of which have been adapted into movies and television shows.
King is the second most adapted author of all time, only behind William Shakespeare. Therefore, in addition to wide ranging influence in pop culture, it is no surprise that he has an interest in the movie industry. The author is very active on social media, and often writes reviews for the most recent films he has seen. Most recently, King watched one of the highest-rated horror movies of 2025 and gave it a solid review.
King Reviewed The 2025 Horror Movie Companion

Companion Is A Horror Movie About An Android

King has reviewed Companion, one of the most critically acclaimed horror movies of 2025. In Companion, a weekend getaway takes a dark turn when the owner of an android tries to frame it for murder. Not wanting to be shut down, the android turns on its owner and the other humans in a bloody and action-packed horror film. The cast of the film includes Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, and Rupert Friend. Reviews for Companion have been exceptional, and ScreenRant’s own Alex Harrison gave the film a score of 7 out of 10.

Stephen King posts his review for Companion on Threads, and claimed it is a “totally fine horror/science fiction movie.” In addition to the horror and sci-fi elements of the movie, the author also claimes that he thought it was very funny. He also expresses that he wished he saw the film in theaters, rather than at home on Prime Video. View King’s full post below:

Our Take On Stephen King’s Review Of Companion

Companion Is An Inventive & Fun Horror Movie

Even though King clearly enjoyed many elements of the film, his claim that Companion is “totally fine” suggests that the horror movie didn’t overly impress him. This is somewhat surprising, since myself and many others loved the movie, as is evident by its score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Companion includes several shocking twists and features amazing performances from stars like Thatcher and Quaid. Companion is definitely worth a watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
