Stranger Things Writers Shut Down Eleven Spinoff Rumors
Apr 5, 2023
The writers of Stranger Things are looking to clear the air with rumors of an Eleven spinoff series taking off in the media. Recently, The Daily Mail published a report that Millie Bobby Brown was offered $12 million to reprise her role as Eleven for her own spinoff. According to this report, Brown turned down the offer as she wanted to “branch out” into other roles, leaving the Stranger Things part of her life behind her after season 5 is released. However, the official Twitter account for the Stranger Things writers’ room announced that the story is false and that “nothing” about the rumor is true, suggesting there were never even any plans to make an Eleven series.
Their tweet reads, “Yeah there’s nothing in this article that is true. Don’t know why we have to keep debunking this rumor but get those clicks you guys!!”
The creators of the series, the Duffer Brothers, have also denied that there’s going to be a new spinoff focusing on Eleven or any of the other main characters from Stranger Things. Speaking with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, they stated that it’d be more interesting to them to focus on different characters that viewers don’t quite yet know so well.
“It’s not following…I’ve read these rumors that there’s gonna be an Eleven spinoff, that there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spinoff or that it’s another number,” they explained. “That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different.”

Stranger Things Will Live On, Even Without Eleven
Netflix
While the rumors have been shot down, they may have been seen as more plausible when considering how Millie Bobby Brown recently confirmed she wants to move on from Stranger Things. While she never said she was offered a big-money deal to potentially lead a spinoff, Brown did say earlier this month that she felt ready to wrap up her time in the role of Eleven to focus on new endeavors.
“I’m definitely ready to wrap up,” she told Seventeen Magazine. “I feel like there’s a lot of the story that’s been told now, and we know of it, it’s been in our lives for a very long time. But I’m very ready to say goodbye to this chapter of my life and open new ones up. I’m able to create stories myself that are important to me and focus on the bigger picture. But I’m really grateful [for the show].”
The good news is that we haven’t seen the last of Brown as Eleven just yet, as she will be back in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. Let’s just hope the show’s final season wraps up the character’s story in a satisfactory way, if this will indeed be the last time viewers get to see her.
