‘Superman’ Test Screening Reactions Continue to Be Mixed for James Gunn’s Live-Action DCU Movie
Apr 3, 2025
James Gunn’s Superman
is clearly one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and now it looks like more reactions from those who have seen the film’s test screenings are leaking out online. As you would expect, there are several scoopers claiming to have heard reactions from these screenings, and, as expected, there are plenty of contradictions to be found among them.
While it has been several weeks since one report suggested that a test screening had yielded a bad set of reactions, now other reports have claimed that some better news is on the horizon – depending on who you believe. Daniel Richtman shared that from what he has been hearing, “people loved it.” No more than that, but for some, that has been enough to raise the hype to new levels.

James Gunn has been following his expected path by reportedly casting one of his ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ stars in an important Superman role.
However, others have continued to suggest that reactions have remained mixed, and in some cases there have even been claims that some people walked out in the middle of the movie. So what is the truth? Is Superman good, bad or just another Gunn special that has been seen before in another universe? It looks like, as expected, we will have a bit longer to wait to find out for certain.
‘Superman’ Star Has Already Killed the Idea That It Is a DCU ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
Warner Bros.
With a huge ensemble of familiar characters, and reports of a humorous and action-packed story, it is not surprising that some have already been comparing Superman to Guardians of the Galaxy before anyone has had a real chance to see much of the film. However, one person who is not buying into that idea is Anthony Carrigan, who plays Rex Mason/Metamorpho in the upcoming movie.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Carrigan was not able to share an awful lot about Superman, unsurprisingly, but able to share his excitement for people to see it, and cautioned against comparing it to James Gunn’s MCU work. He said:
“I haven’t seen anything, just the trailers. But I’m very excited. I tend to forget quite easily that I’m a part of this movie. So anytime someone reminds me of it, I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah, Superman. Yes, I am in that.’ And it just blows my mind every time. I am hesitant to liken it to Guardians [of the Galaxy], but I do think that [Superman] has the same heart and intelligence. That’s James’ trademark. But I think it’s going to be its own thing entirely. The process of working on it was such a special one, and the whole cast was on board with bringing something really special to it. So, hopefully, that’s conveyed on screen.”
Fans still have a few months to wait until David Corenswet gets his chance to fly into cinemas as the latest star to don the red cape, but a new trailer is rumored to be arriving very soon. Exactly what new details this will show is unknown, but hopefully it won’t spoil too much before fans get a chance to experience it all first-hand in cinemas this July.
