‘Superman’ Won’t Feature Origin Story, Lois-Clark Dating History Revealed

Apr 16, 2025

Rachel Brosnahan is coming fresh off her exciting CinemaCon appearance alongside Superman director James Gunn and her fellow costars, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, to promote the highly anticipated DCU film. Now, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and the House of Cards actress shifts gears and is busy on her press tour for the upcoming movie, The Amateur. However, she did take the time to assure Man of Steel fans that they will not have to sit through yet another Clark Kent/Kal-El origin story when Superman takes flight in cinemas this July. Brosnahan said in an interview with Collider:

“I also love that this is not an origin story. We’ve seen the origin story done so well a number of different times, but we come into a world that already exists — Lois and Clark are working at the Daily Planet, monsters exist in Metropolis, Lex Luthor has LuthorCorp. We drop in at this point in their relationship that I’ve never seen before.”

‘Superman’s Controversial Sneak Peek Has Received Some Incredibly Divisive Reactions

‘Superman’s sneak peek has clearly divided fans over how vulnerable the Man of Steel appears in the new footage, but everyone loves Krypto.

One plot point that does seem very intriguing about the new Superman film is the fact that Clark is madly in love with Lois Lane (Brosnahan), according to Gunn, but the Daily Planet’s intrepid reporter isn’t exactly sure how she feels about him. The actress shed a little more light on their complicated relationship, which is about three months old, when fans catch up with the characters in Gunn’s movie. Brosnahan continued by saying (below):

“They’ve been together for about three months, and they’re asking some questions about the future of their relationship. They’re not sure if this is something that was just a really great fling or something that could be forever, and they have really opposite worldviews — and they bump up against each other that way. So, it was a really fun way into a familiar story.”

Rachel Brosnahan Was in “Capable Hands” on the ‘Superman’ Set

Warner Bros. Discovery

James Gunn showed up on the CinemaCon stage with his film’s own DC Trinity (Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult), and it was clearly one of the most exciting moments from this year’s event. In fact, the Superman sneak peek that the cast and crew unleashed for audiences to ponder has since accumulated over 8.8 million views on YouTube in just four days’ time. Yes, it is true that many fans still aren’t sure what to expect from Gunn’s Man of Steel movie, but the actress portraying Lois Lane never had any doubts that she was in “capable hands” while shooting the DCU adventure. Brosnahan said in the same interview:

“James has such a clear vision for this, and we all just fell into his very capable hands. Well, now I feel I can say a little bit more because James really busted it wide open in CinemaCon. David and I have been trying not to say so many things for weeks leading up, and James just laid it all out.”

Brosnahan, who follows in the footsteps of renowned Lois Lane actresses like Margot Kidder, Erica Durance, and Amy Adams, dove right into the character from day one on the Superman set, which she elaborated on while speaking with Collider. Brosnahan said:

“My first day of shooting was actually this 10-page-long scene with David that we auditioned with, and so we shot it for two days. To be able to do that just laid this foundation for us and these characters that we got to carry through the rest of the film.”

James Gunn’s Superman joins the 2025 box office lineup when the DCU’s first big-screen entry finally lands in theaters on July 11. However, while the faithful fans of Rachel Brosnahan wait to see what she brings to the already iconic character of Lois Lane, they can catch the actress starring alongside Rami Malek in The Amateur, which opens in cinemas on April 11.
