Sydney Sweeney and Vanessa Kirby Are Trapped in the Trailer for Their New Thriller ‘Eden’
Aug 6, 2025
After a long wait, Ron Howard’s historical thriller Eden is finally coming to theaters. In the new trailer for the film, a star-studded cast, including Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, and Vanessa Kirby brave the elements in a hostile new world. Eden will be released on August 22.
What Is ‘Eden’ About?
Eden is based on the real-life experiences of Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Law) and his wife Dora Strauch (Kirby), a German couple who believe modern society is undermining man’s true nature. They set out for the uninhabited island Floreana, part of the South American Galápagos Islands, and are joined by an eccentric crew of settlers. They include the hard-working couple Heniz and Margret Whitmer (Daniel Brühl and Sweeney), who fit in well, and Baroness Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Ana de Armas), who does not, given that she arrives with a two lovers and a full wardrobe, and plans to build a luxury hotel on the site. However, they soon learn that more dangerous than the elements or wild beasts is the duplicity and covetousness of man. The film was written by Noah Pink (Tetris), and produced by Howard and longtime producing partner Brian Grazer. Eden went on a torturous journey of its own to theaters. It premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival almost a year ago, and was released in Germany in the spring, but was only acquired for North American distribution by Vertical in April. It currently holds a 57% Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Collider’s Ross Bonaime praised the film’s ensemble cast, calling it “an opportunity to have a lot of beautiful actors doing really fun work in performances unlike we’ve seen from them.” Eden will be released in theaters on August 22, 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
