Taylor Sheridan has become a staple in the TV world through his work on the Yellowstone saga, which recently expanded into the new Marshals spin-off on CBS. Moving away from the main Yellowstone story, this show focuses on U.S. Navy SEAL and rancher Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) as he joins a specialized group of U.S. Marshals tasked with protecting the state of Montana. After the first season used a case-of-the-week storytelling style, Season 2 will pick up after a massive cliffhanger centered on Kayce and his son, Breckin Merrill’s Tate Dutton. Now, with the new season close to arriving, CBS offered a first look at what to expect from the story. CBS released the first official trailer for Marshals Season 2 just over a month before its release on Oct. 4, 2026. The trailer brings back the youngest member of the Yellowstone family, Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton, after a Season 1 cliffhanger that closed off the season with his son’s fate in the air. Ash Santos’ Andrea Cruz calls him a “chaos magnet” and warns him about keeping his distance from everything happening before other footage confirms that Breckin Merrill’s Tate Dutton is back with his father. As Kayce tries to get assurance that nothing will happen to his child, after Chris Mulkey’s Tom Weaver put his life in danger at the end of Season 1.

After Season 1 delivered the most-watched CBS premiere episode since 2017’s Young Sheldon, the network renewed Marshals for Season 2 less than two weeks later. The new season will also have an incredibly quick turnaround time, with its first episode arriving on CBS just over four months after Season 1 ended in May 2026. Season 2 will also add to the cast, as Marque Richardson joins the production in a recurring role as Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Burnes alongside the main cast of stars from Season 1. Now, with the new season close to arriving, CBS offered a first look at what to expect from the story.

From everything in this trailer, Season 2 is only set to ramp up the drama to new levels for the Dutton family in this spin-off. With Kayce still reeling from Monica’s death and his son’s kidnapping, he and Dolly Weaver (Ellyn Jameson) will go up against some major crime lords and take on even bigger challenges this time around. Additionally, speculation is building that this season could lead to a major crossover event, as Dutton Ranch also ended with a Dutton child being kidnapped (Finn Little’s Carter Green was taken by a cartel). Although Dutton Ranch Season 2 has not started filming yet, there could still be a hint of a crossover sometime this season for Kayce and co., but the story will have plenty of its own twists and turns to follow once it arrives as well.

Marshals Season 2 will begin airing on CBS at 8:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 4, 2026.
