Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine headline Amazon‘s adaptation of Casey McQuiston‘s 2019 novel of the same name. After an altercation at a major event becomes a PR mishap, handlers push Perez’s Alex and Galitzine’s Prince Henry together for publicity damage control. But the proximity between the two young men leads to feelings about each other neither expected.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Red, White & Royal Blue,” courtesy of Prime Video:
Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the President of the United States, and Britain’s Prince Henry have a lot in common: stunning good looks, undeniable charisma, international popularity … and a total disdain for each other. Separated by an ocean, their long-running feud hasn’t really been an issue, until a disastrous—and very public—altercation at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, driving a potential wedge in U.S./British relations at the worst possible time. Going into damage-control mode, their families and handlers force the two rivals into a staged “truce.” But as Alex and Henry’s icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.
“Red, White & Royal Blue” also stars Uma Thurman, Stephen Fry, Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, and Ellie Bamber. Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth, and Juan Castano round out the main cast.
Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López makes his directorial debut with “Red, White & Royal Blue.” He also co-writes the film’s script with Ted Malawer. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter produce the film, with McQuiston, Michael Riley McGrath, López, and Michael S. Constable on board as executive producers.
“Red, White & Royal Blue” premieres on Amazon Prime Video on August 11. Watch a trailer for the film below.
