‘Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham Reveals Season 4 Will Begin Shooting Sooner Than You Think

May 23, 2025

Ted Lasso Season 4 is moving ahead much quicker than fans were expecting, as Hannah Waddingham, who stars as AFC Richmond’s owner, Rebecca Welton, recently revealed that the show will go into production before the next soccer season even begins. Over three seasons, fans have fallen in love with the titular, overly optimistic soccer coach, Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis. Fans thought it was all over after a hat-trick of seasons sent Lasso back to the US to be with his son. But the 2024/25 season came with some shockers, like Ted Lasso potentially getting three more seasons. While Seasons 5 and 6 remain a rumor, Waddingham has confirmed that Season 4 is in the back of the net.
Hannah Waddingham recently appeared on the English radio show, Capital Breakfast, to promote Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and was asked about returning for the fourth season of Ted Lasso. The actress revealed far more than fans were expecting, including when AFC Richmond will get back together for pre-season training (shooting). “We start shooting in July,” she revealed. Hannah Waddingham went on to praise the show’s writing staff, especially for their depiction of well-rounded, realistic female characters, saying:

“Our writers are literally Jedi Knights. They’re just incredible. And we’ve got like a full room of real feminist men. So we’ve got all the fabulous women there, and the men that are in there, and I think you really see it in the scripts.”

Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham Blasts Photographer Who Asked Her to “Show Leg” Before Olivier Awards Appearance

Hannah Waddingham has become a viral sensation for calling out a photographer who encouraged her to “show leg” outside London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The news of more Ted Lasso came as a shocking injury-time comeback to the entire fan base, including Hannah Waddingham herself. “We were all a bit like, ‘Oh!'” she said of the cast’s reaction to the renewal. “We thought we’d mourned the loss. And now it’s rising from the dead. It’s amazing.” Waddingham also joked about the show’s dominance on the Apple TV+ streaming chart, explaining:

“Whenever something comes onto the Apple platform, we always knock down 3 or 4. I was furious. And then we literally, -we drift back on. But that’s the writing.”

The Greyhounds Are Coming Back!

Very few fans will argue over Ted Lasso coming back. Season 4 doesn’t have an official release date yet. But, with the show set to shoot this July, fans are expecting Season 4 to return sometime in 2026.
The plot for Ted Lasso Season 4 remains a tightly guarded mystery. But, following the ending to Season 3, there are certain plot points we can guess at. Ted Lasso is confirmed to be coming back for Season 4 (admittedly, it wouldn’t be much of a show without him). But, given that he’s once again a US resident, it is unclear whether he will return to Richmond to help the team win the Premier League (or even to coach the new women’s team!), or if he will remain Stateside, and become a supporting character in his own show. As for Rebecca, the Season 3 finale saw her and Keely Jones (Juno Temple) form an AFC Richmond Women’s team, which could be a major plot point in Season 4.
