The Director’s Cut Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Aug 18, 2024

Beyond Paranormal is a supernatural thriller released in 2021. After reading reviews from critics and fans alike, writer-director Matteo Ribaudo went through and re-edited the film. Beyond Paranormal: The Director’s Cut has an entirely new beginning, as well as some added or reshuffled scenes to supposedly better clarify this or that part or scene. The original was a muddled but compelling affair. Is the director’s cut a superior offering or should the original have been left alone?

“…Ray begins having nightmares and horrifying visions all hours of the day.”
Lily (Cortney Palm) is an aspiring actress and social media influencer who just received her big break. She’s been cast as the lead in an experimental found footage movie being directed by Chaz (Oliver Cooper), who is a giant sexist piece of work. Lily’s significant other, Ray (Ryan Donowho), is an author working on a horror manuscript. While he’s burning through his advance, the retreat the two are at for him to write is a beautiful location.
In the mail, Lily receives a totem statue symbolizing an important piece of the flick she’s preparing for. But once the totem is in the house, Ray begins having nightmares and horrifying visions all hours of the day. He sees a lady clad in an Aztec (?) dress drinking blood. Then Lily begins acting strangely, as if possessed. Is this all part of the motion picture she’s working on? Did the totem bring in an ancient entity that is causing all this mayhem? Has Ray’s overactive imagination gotten the better of him?
