New fan-made character posters for Marvel’s First Family in Marvel Studios’ upcoming The Fantastic Four reboot hint at a potential reality-hopping storyline in the MCU Phase 6 movie. Even though Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige teased the introduction of the Fantastic Four into the MCU back in 2019, it wasn’t until February 2024 that the official cast of the MCU’s The Fantastic Four was confirmed. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be the MCU’s Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, respectively, debuting among a star-studded supporting cast in the much-anticipated Phase 6 reboot.

While The Fantastic Four isn’t scheduled for release until July 25, 2025, Marvel Studios has already been releasing promotional material and character posters for the movie, such as that for Johnny Storm’s Human Torch. However, samuel_cheve is one step ahead, releasing stunning character posters for all four members of the Fantastic Four team.

These posters imagine what Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach could look like as Marvel’s First Family, but also tease a massive rumored storyline for Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four, that may see the titular team begin their MCU journey in another universe altogether.

Related The Fantastic Four’s Alternate Reality Theory Risks Repeating A Controversial MCU Phase 4 Moment The Fantastic Four is speculated to take place in an alternate reality in the vast multiverse, but this could repeat a divisive MCU Phase 4 moment.

Why The Fantastic Four Will Include Time-Travel Or The Multiverse

While the exact storyline or setting for The Fantastic Four hasn’t yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios, there are many things that can be deduced from the promotional material that’s already been released. Most notably, it seems as though The Fantastic Four will either feature time travel or multiversal travel, as the Phase 6 project is heavily-suspected to be set in the 1960s, or in a 1960s-inspired alternate reality. This presents the perfect way for Marvel Studios to explain why the Fantastic Four haven’t been seen in the MCU, as they may have been in another time, or another universe.

The Fantastic Four
also takes inspiration from issues of Marvel Comics released or set in the 1960s, including 1961’s
Fantastic Four #1
, 1966’s
Fantastic Four #48, #49,
and
#50
, and 2021’s
Fantastic Four: Life Story #1
.

This speculation saw a major boost when Marvel Studios released a Valentine’s Day-themed poster confirming the cast of The Fantastic Four. Many aspects of this poster hinted at the project’s 1960s setting, including the home decor and costumes, the inclusion of the retro robot HERBIE, an image of Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm as an Apollo astronaut, and the fact that Ben Grimm’s Thing is reading a 1963 issue of LIFE Magazine. Theories have suggested that the Fantastic Four could time travel to the MCU’s present day after their debut adventure, though recent speculation suggests their journey may be much more difficult.

Related The Fantastic Four’s Alternate Universe Theory Just Got A Major New Clue Casting news is rolling in for the MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot, and the latest supports a bold and exciting alternate universe theory.

The first official character poster released for The Fantastic Four put Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm front-and-center. The poster sees Storm’s Human Torch flying over a city, though this city is nothing like any that have been seen in the MCU’s main continuity, suggesting The Fantastic Four takes place in an alternate reality, perhaps one perpetually stuck in the 1960s. Julia Garner’s casting as Shalla-Bal’s Silver Surfer also supports this theory, as Shalla-Bal became the Silver Surfer in an alternate universe in Marvel Comics, which means Marvel’s First Family may use multiversal travel to join the MCU in The Fantastic Four.

The Fantastic Four (2025) Marvel’s Fantastic Four is the first MCU movie to feature Marvel’s First Family in the same live-action universe as the Avengers. It introduces the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm, and precedes Phase 6’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.Director Matt Shakman Release Date July 25, 2025
