‘The Hawk’s Luke Wilson Officially Weighs in on a Possible Crossover With Apple TV’s ‘Stick’
Jul 17, 2026
Netflix’s newest sports comedy, The Hawk, is attempting to join the ranks of other beloved golf comedies, like Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore. With Will Ferrell leading the way, it very well could. Ferrell stars as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a golfer who hasn’t quite given up on his dreams, despite it looking like his glory days are behind him. His son, Lance (Jimmy Tatro), is making a name for himself, and his long-time rival, Golden Fisk (Luke Wilson), continues to dominate the golf scene. When Lonnie recruits Same (Fortune Feimster) as his new caddy, who knows nothing about the sport, it might be the change he needs to actually get his groove back. The series also stars SNL alumni Molly Shannon and Chris Parnell. Ahead of the show’s release, Collider’s Meredith Loftus sat down with Fortune Feimster, Jimmy Tatro, and Luke Wilson to discuss the new Netflix series. The stars share what initially drew them to join Ferrell’s cast, as well as what their characters ultimately mean to Lonnie. Feimster and Tatro also speculate what their characters could be up to in Season 2, should the show be renewed. Plus, Wilson compares his role in The Hawk to that of his brother’s (Owen Wilson) Apple TV golf comedy, Stick. You can watch the full interview above or read the transcript below.
Luke Wilson Reacts to Joining a Golf Comedy Series Like His Brother, Owen
“It is funny that we both somehow wound up on golf shows at the exact same time.”

COLLIDER: If you were in a cast tournament of mini-golf, who do you think would win? FORTUNE FEIMSTER: Not me. I know that. JIMMY TATRO: I think Luke would win. LUKE WILSON: I don’t know. I’ve been having some putting woes. But we would work on our short game a lot during the show. We putt a lot and chipped a lot because you could kind of stay around on camera. WILL FERRELL: [Yelling from off-camera] Molly [Shannon] just said I’m the most professional. FEIMSTER: You’re the most professional person we’ve ever worked with. For sure. Thank you for letting us know. I have to say, I asked that question to Will and Molly, and Will said that you, Fortune, would probably win. FEIMSTER: He thinks that I would win? Listen, I don’t know golf, and luckily, my character did not need to know about golf. But the only thing I know how to do is… Was it a drive? WILSON: Yeah! You said you knew how to drive it. FEIMSTER: See? I don’t even know the terms. I can go to Top Golf and drive the ball, but I don’t think I would be good at putting. WILSON: No, this sounds like a golf hustler to me. “What do you call that thing…?” FEIMSTER: “What is that thing where the ball goes really far? I can do that.” For each of you, what was it about the script that made you say yes to signing on to join the cast? TATRO: I mean, they were like, “Do you want to play Will’s son in this golf show?” And it was pretty much a yes immediately without even hearing anything more about the concept. I kind of said yes, and then they started explaining more, and they were like, “Yeah, they start to go head-to-head,” and I was like, “This is just sounding better and better, actually.” But I was a yes just on hearing what it was. FEIMSTER: Yeah, same. They were like, “Do you want to be Will’s caddy in a golf show?” And I was like, “Of course.” So I don’t even think I learned about anything until, like, day one. [Laughs] WILSON: I was actually watching golf in a dark room, and it was one of those things where I was like, “Really? Wow, that sounds great!” Well, I’ve got to be honest, Luke, did you sign up to do this to one-up Owen’s golf series? WILSON: Well, it was funny because my dad played golf, and my brother, Andrew, plays golf, so I played a ton with those guys, but Owen was always just a very good putter. Because he’s a lefty, he’d not grown up playing. But then, when he did Stick, he really got into it. But yeah, it was really funny how I was saying that for so long, it was just Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore were the only golf projects, and people who knew I played golf would say, “Why isn’t there good golf comedy?” And I would just never have a good answer. Yeah, I think Owen had a great time on Stick, and they’ve done a Season 2, so it’s been fun. He’s now really into golf, and he does a good job. He’s taking lessons and things like that. It is funny that we both somehow wound up on golf shows at the exact same time. It sounds like it’s time for a crossover. FEIMSTER: Ooh, look at that. WILSON: Yeah, that’s a good idea.
‘The Hawk’ Cast Reflects on Their Relationship With Lonnie Throughout the Season
“[Lonnie] has to learn to think beyond himself, not be so selfish.”
For each of you, your characters play a unique role in Lonnie’s journey this season, and I want to know from each of you what you think the impact of your character means to seeing him become a better person and even a better golfer. WILSON: I don’t think this is a question for Golden to answer. [Feimster, Tatro, and Wilson laugh] A competitive spirit! WILSON: I’ll step out of this one. [Laughs] TATRO: I think Lance’s relationship with Lonnie might be forcing Lance to examine his reasons why he feels so strongly about certain things. “What are you doing it for?” Also, I think Lance might occasionally be making him feel selfish, whereas I feel like Sam might actually be helping him become a better person. WILSON: Yeah, for sure! TATRO: Lance might just be making him feel like he’s a horrible person. FEIMSTER: Yeah, I don’t want to brag, but I do think Sam is having the most impact on his character as far as trying to be a better person. My character just has this nonchalant attitude about a lot of things that I think he sort of adapts, but has to learn to think beyond himself, not be so selfish. WILSON: And it’s just funny, the idea of a caddy that doesn’t play golf and knows nothing about golf, because usually, like in the pros, the caddies themselves are great players. They have these books that look like geometry. That was one of the funniest things about Fortune’s character, was how she got through, just personally, to help The Hawk.
Could There Be a Future Partnership Between Lance and Sam in Season 2?
“If Lance and Sam agreed on something and Lonnie didn’t, I could see that being a problem.”
Looking ahead to Season 2, it looks like Sam, Lonnie, and Lance are hitting the road together. Do you think Sam and Lance could become better friends, or do you think there could be a rivalry that could spark up from there?
TATRO: I think Sam and Lance are so on opposite sides of the spectrum that it might end up actually working in a weird way. And I feel like Lonnie wouldn’t be too thrilled about that. FEIMSTER: Teaming up against him at times. Yeah, I don’t know. I think that’s the hope. We hope we get the opportunity to explore what these characters could do. TATRO: Yeah, like if Lance and Sam agreed on something and Lonnie didn’t, I could see that being a problem. FEIMSTER: Yeah, some tension. WILSON: Who knows? Maybe Sam even takes the job and moves to your bag. FEIMSTER: Oooh! TATRO: Lance makes her an offer she can’t refuse. FEIMSTER: I thought you were going to say that my character becomes straight and starts liking this guy. WILSON: [Laughs] That could happen. FEIMSTER: That’s a twist! The Hawk is now streaming on Netflix.
