The Kang Dynasty Writer Says It Will ‘Throw Phase 4’s New Heroes Into the Fire’
Mar 25, 2023
Kevin Feige said that Phase 4 of the MCU was about new beginnings. That included the introduction of more than a dozen new characters and groups who have yet to play a role in a big Avengers movie. According to screenwriter Jeff Loveness, these latest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will get a baptism of fire in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, when they come up against the new Big Bad of the franchise.
There were many fans who felt a little let down by Phase 4 of the MCU, with some wanting the franchise to somehow continue to build on the scale of Endgame. As this would have been impossible to do, it was therefore necessary for there to be a lull in the story, and time to breathe. Now it seems that time is over, and as Loveness explained to SFX Magazine, it’s time to “put the pedal to the gas again.” He said:
“As I’m building to Avengers I want it to feel like a generational struggle. Phase 4 felt like the birth of new characters. You’re giving everyone a little bit of a breath, you’re broadening out the universe, you have fun Disney Plus shows that are elevating characters. And now I think it’s time to put the pedal to the gas again, and really take all these new characters that we like and throw them into the fire.”

Which Characters Will Have Vital Roles In Avengers: The Kang Dynasty?
Marvel Studios / Disney
The roster of Marvel characters that will be available for the final movies of the Multiverse Saga is getting larger all the time. While Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are guaranteed to feature old MCU heroes such as Thor, Captain America, Doctor Strange and Hulk, there are many others who will be joining them, from Ms. Marvel and America Chavez, to Shang-Chi and She-Hulk, and of course the incoming Fantastic Four, and potentially others such as Blade, Eternals, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man…the list goes on.
One thing for certain, is that by the time Avengers: Secret Wars arrives, the MCU story will have built up to the same kind of crescendo that came with Avengers: Endgame. With more seemingly at stake than even the threat of Thanos delivered, the expectation on that Phase 6 movie is already very high. At the moment though, the focus us very much on the arrival of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will be the real kick-off movies of the Multiverse Saga. Talking about the overall plan of the MCU, Kevin Feige previously said:
“Each of our sagas are broken into phases and we now find ourselves on the precipice of Phase 2 of the Multiverse Saga. And there are two ways to do it. One, we look at an overarching narrative, always using the comics and the 80-plus years of Marvel comic history as our guide of what general, long-term story we want to do. But really, it comes down to each individual film or series, and what type of genre we want to do.”
