The Last Airbender’ Casts Former DC Actor in Major Role for the Final Season
May 31, 2025
Production is well underway on Season 3 of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, and the show is rounding out its cast for the final season. Debuting in 2024, the series is based on the hit Nickelodeon animated show of the same name. Although it hasn’t received the same critical acclaim as the beloved original, Netflix’s adaptation was popular enough to secure two more seasons, which will bring the show to an end. With the final season in production, the series is casting the rest of its major characters, and a former DCEU star has just joined the series as a very important character. Per Deadline, Adam Beach has been cast in the final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The actor is set to play Hakoda, who fans of the original show will remember as the father of Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley). After losing their mother when they were young, Hakoda is the siblings’ last surviving family member, although he was believed to be missing after going to war with the Fire Nation. Adam Beach is best known for playing Slipknot in the DCEU, who was given criminally little screen time in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Beach has also starred in the likes of Government Cheese, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Clint Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers.

The animated ‘Avatar’ franchise is getting ready to return to our screens. Here’s a look at every new entry, from a Zuko movie to ‘Seven Havens.’
Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender has already wrapped production. Following the shooting wrap, Netflix announced even more cast members for the second season, including a dark and twisted fan favorite. Netflix’s adaptation has been criticized by some for being much darker than the original animated show, but Season 2 will feature a very dark plotline that every fan of the original will remember. Tantoo Cardinal has been cast as Hama, the devilish waterbender who discovered the art of bloodbending. The original episode featuring Hama is a strong fan favorite, and fans are equally excited and anxious to see it adapted in Netflix’s version.
When Does ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 2 Release?
Netflix
Despite production being wrapped, fans are still none the wiser as to when Season 2 will be released. Netflix hasn’t given any updates or indicators regarding a release date yet. But, Season 2 hasn’t been featured in any of the streamer’s marketing for its 2025 slate, so fans are expecting the show to return in early 2026. Although, given the amount of CGI that is required, that may be a tad optimistic. Much like the original series, Netflix’s adaptation will last for three seasons. As previously mentioned, work is already underway on Season 3. As a result of the back-to-back shooting schedule, expect the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 to be far shorter than the current wait. Once Season 3 is released, fans will be looking to Netflix to see if the streamer will adapt the popular sequel series, The Legend of Korra, which is set decades after the original show. So far, the streamer hasn’t given any indication about adapting the sequel. Source: Deadline
