Season two ended with Cary Dubek (Drew Tarver) landing a role in an indie film, with rehearsals beginning on…March 13, 2020. That day is when most of the world locked down in response to the growing threat of COVID-19. Two days before, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, forever changing the world.
But will not take place during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kelly explained that they had jumped three years into the future and said, “We did just skip right the hell over that. Please make sure you print that this is not, like, a COVID show. We are not all about COVID now.”
Here’s the season three synopsis:
After comparing themselves for years to their much-younger pop star brother, ChaseDreams (Case Walker), who is now a full adult, and their talk show host mother (Molly Shannon), who’s now more powerful than she could have ever imagined, Brooke and Cary (Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver) are finally standing on their own two feet – fully “successful” in their own right! And yet, they somehow find themselves comparing themselves to new people once again???
However, the season will address the pandemic because Schneider explained that it “is so grounded in what feels real and current. We didn’t want to make a show that completely ignored our current situation and the ongoing effects of living through a global pandemic. We are three years in the future, but all of our characters have been impacted in some way by what we’ve all gone through. And we just tried to explore different funny routes that would take them.”
Previous season veterans Josh Segarra, Richard Kind, Kate Berlant, and Jimmy Fowlie are all expected to return, with Simu Liu, Fin Argus, Ann Dowd, Edie Falco, Ben Platt, Dylan O’Brien, and Lukas Gage appearing as guest stars throughout the season. The third season of “The Other Two” will run for ten episodes and premiere on HBO Max on May 4, with new episodes released weekly. Watch the trailer below:
