The Umbrella Academy Adds Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally & David Cross to Fourth and Final Season

Mar 10, 2023

Following recent talks, comedic power couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally have officially joined the fourth season of The Umbrella Academy. And they’ve brought Arrested Development star David Cross with them. Confirmed by Netflix via Twitter, the three actors will join the fray of The Umbrella Academy for its fourth and final season, and each one of them is sure to be a very welcome addition to the warped superhero shenanigans.

Best known for his award-winning performance as Ron Swanson in the sitcom Parks and Recreation, Nick Offerman has been met with applause recently for his role in HBO’s ongoing video game adaptation, The Last of Us. Offerman will be joined in The Umbrella Academy Season 4 by his real-life wife and Will & Grace star Megan Mullally, with the pair playing spouses and professors Doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau.

Described as “a pair of mild-mannered Midwestern community college professors” the “Thibedeaus’ lives will get a lot less sensible when they get caught up in some timeline-twisting chaos.”

The fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy will also introduce Arrested Development and Sorry to Bother You star David Cross as Sy Grossman, “an upstanding but shy business owner and family man. Sy is desperate to reconnect with his estranged (and unnamed) daughter; he will stop at nothing to get her back.”

The Umbrella Academy Will End with Season 4

Netflix

Based on the Dark Horse comic by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy drops audiences into a bizarre world where, in 1989, a highly unusual occurrence sees forty-three infants inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy. Seven of these mysterious babies are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.

Both the second and third seasons find The Umbrella Academy surviving within a new timeline, created by them messing with time travel and multiverses. Which never works out well. The last season sees The Umbrella Academy battling their alternate counterparts, The Sparrow Academy, before concluding with a literal reset. Emerging in a world of their mysterious father Reginald’s design, the Academy finds themselves without any of their superpowers.

“This new timeline has been dictated by Hargreeves, who reprogrammed the Universe at the end of the Season 3 finale,” creator Steve Blackman said of the setting for season 4. “But because of Allison’s actions, he didn’t get to finish what he started before Allison pressed the reset button.”

Starring Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, and Colm Feore, The Umbrella Academy Season 4 does not yet have a premiere date but the first episode, “The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want,” will debut on Netflix along with the rest of the season. The first three seasons of The Umbrella Academy are now available to stream on Netflix.
