The World of Dune Returns & The Bene Gesserit Returns In November

Jul 18, 2024

Fans of “Dune” wait no more, as a new part of the series is also coming this year. From a six-time Oscar-winning franchise, “Dune: Prophecy” is about two Harkonnen sisters fighting off threats to mankind. They also help to make a fabled sect that will, quite notably, be Bene Gesserit. This series is based on “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Hubert and Kevin. J. Anderson. Notably, this book is not written by Frank Hubert, creator of Dune, but rather by his son, and was released in 2012.

“Dune: Prophecy” stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Yerin Ha, and Emma Canning. While stars such as Timthee Chalemtt and Zendaya from the ‘Dune’ films won’t be reprising their roles in this new addition to the Dune world– it’s set decades or even centuries earlier– we have acclaimed actresses Watson and Williams to keep one company on this new adventure.
The showrunner of “Dune: Prophecy” is Alison Shapker. It is executive produced by Schapker herself, along with Diane Ademu-John, Anna Foerster, Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, Jon Spaihts, Byron Merritt, and Kim and Brian Herbert. It was co-produced by Legendary Television, Max, and Kevin J. Anderson. Max, Warner Bros, and Legendary Television are both distributors of the “Dune” films, which arrived with box office and critical success.
The teaser trailer suggested that Dune IP’s television boundaries are limitless; the world feels similar to the one experienced in the big-budget blockbuster films it is connected to, but also expansive in new ways. It seems the ‘Dune’ IP isn’t over and won’t be long, as a third “Dune” film is already in the works and already set for a December 2026 release date. Here’s the synopsis:
From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, DUNE: PROPHECY follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. DUNE: PROPHECY is inspired by the novel SISTERHOOD OF DUNE, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
“Dune: Prophecy” arrives on Max in November 2024. Watch the new trailer below.
