How do you confront the bleakest of challenges? A family faces a world altered by nature and fate in “Families Like Ours.” The series sees Denmark in crisis as rising water levels prompt mass evacuations. Suddenly, an entire country grapples with finding a new place to call home and the prejudices accompanying their plight. The series hails from celebrated filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg, whose previous efforts include the critically acclaimed films “Another Round” and “The Hunt.” Vinterberg directs all episodes — additionally co-writing ‘Ours’ with Bo Hr. Hansen.

This timely project carries a message of hope and determination. Its connection to ‘Round’ is even more a testament to the future, according to Vinterberg. “I actually grabbed that element of electricity, naivety, and youth shooting ‘Another Round.’ I always enjoyed shooting Mads Mikkelsen, but I really enjoyed it when the camera panned left, and I saw all of these youngsters with like a sense of ignition,” he told Variety. “I wanted to bring them into the series as carriers of hope for the future.”

The series’ official synopsis:
In a not-too-distant future, Denmark faces total evacuation due to rising water levels. As the nation prepares to leave their homes, high school student Laura must choose between her divorced parents and the boy she’s fallen in love with.
