In 2023, there’s no surprise when you hear that a network is reviving an old show for a new season. We’ve seen this play out with numerous series and more are to come. So, it wasn’t necessarily a shock that FX wanted to bring back “Justified” for one more season, but it definitely was a welcome announcement.

And as seen in the first teaser for “Justified: City Primeval,” this ain’t your grandma’s “Justified.” Instead of the friendly environment of eastern Kentucky, ‘City Primeval’ finds everybody’s favorite U.S. Marshall, Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), relocated to the city of Detroit, as he works on a brand-new case. This time, Givens finds himself on the hunt for a new killer, the Oklahoma Wildman, as he eludes the police in Detroit. ‘City Primeval’ is based on the book of the same name by author Elmore Leonard. However, the original novel doesn’t feature Leonard’s Givens character. But the network decided to combine Leonard’s characters in a bit of a mash-up story.
Joining Olyphant in the cast for “Justified: City Primeval” are Aunjanue Ellis, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Marin Ireland, Norbert Leo Butz, and Victor Williams. Dave Andron and Michael Dinner return to the world of “Justified,” this time the two writer-producers are now showrunners of the new season. And according to Andron, even though “Justified” is in the title, ‘City Primeval’ is going to have its own feel.
“It’s very, very new. Not quite the old ‘Justified,’” Andron said to EW. “Only people who read the book might have an idea, but I think people who haven’t, who just expect the old thing, are going to be very surprised.”
“Justified: City Primeval” is set to arrive on FX on July 18. You can watch the new teaser below:
