Tom Hiddleston Responds To Whether Loki Appears In Deadpool 3

Nov 16, 2023

Summary

Tom Hiddleston didn’t debunk rumors about Loki appearing in Deadpool 3, leaving the possibility open to speculate. The multiversal premise of Deadpool 3 allows for any character from the MCU, Deadpool, or X-Men movies to make an appearance. While Loki could technically appear in Deadpool 3, it’s uncertain if it’s the right move for the character after the conclusion of Loki season 2.

Tom Hiddleston addresses whether the rumors that Loki could be appearing in Deadpool 3 are true. Hiddleston’s future as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a bit ambiguous following the finale of Loki season 2. However, Loki’s close connection to time and the multiverse, and the high probability of Deadpool 3 being a multiversal movie, means there is a path for him to return to the big screen quickly. This has resulted in a fan theory gaining popularity that postulates Loki and the TVA may make an appearance in the upcoming sequel.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hiddleston addressed the fan theory about Loki appearing in Deadpool 3 and didn’t outright debunk it.

Hiddleston confirmed he was aware that Deadpool 3 was in the works and that he was thinking “of all the answers” he could give to the rumor. However, he ultimately didn’t answer the question, changing the subject to Ryan Reynolds’ soccer team. Check out his statement below:

I mean, I know they’re making Deadpool 3. It’s a very good question. I’m thinking of all the answers I could give it. I know that Ryan Reynolds he like, owns a football team in the UK. A soccer team.

Is It Feasible for Loki To Appear in Deadpool 3

Unsurprisingly, Loki’s rumored casting in Deadpool 3 is a popular fan theory. While Deadpool 3 plot details are unknown, it’s anticipated to be a multiversal movie. It’s a tricky premise that Disney has to handle because 20th Century Fox used to own the rights to Deadpool and X-Men. However, now that Disney has acquired them, the brand wants to bring them to the MCU but establish that the previous Deadpool films and X-Men series took place in an alternate universe. Hence, the multiverse is necessary to explain why Deadpool (Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are in the movie.

Meanwhile, using the multiverse opens up a plethora of opportunities. Now, any character in the MCU, Deadpool, or X-Men movies can make an appearance due to alternate timelines and variants. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness took advantage of this by having the Illuminati appear in an alternate universe. Hence, Loki appearing in Deadpool 3 is a fairly tame idea, considering all the endless, wild possibilities of the multiverse. So far, Deadpool 3 has Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra for the first time in nearly two decades, showing it will have some fun with the multiverse.

Jennifer Garner portrayed Elektra Natchios in Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005). Although critics panned her solo film, her performance still earned praise.

Although Deadpool 3 has the premise to welcome Loki, it is unclear if Loki is willing to appear. His time-slipping ability initially allowed him to pop up in whatever timeline he pleased. However, Loki’s ending seemed to insinuate he was trapped in a new role in the MCU. Although a variant could still appear, Hiddleston also indicated in his interview that Loki season 2 may have marked the end of his journey as Loki. While Loki could technically appear in Deadpool 3, it’s unclear if it’s the right move for the character.
