A new trailer has been released for the inspiring sports biopic Sweetwater, which follows the true story of Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, the first black player signed to an NBA contract. Everett Osborne stars in the film as Nat, and is joined by an all-star cast that includes Jeremy Piven, Cary Elwes, Richard Dreyfuss, Eric Roberts, Kevin Pollak, Jim Caviezel, Mike Starr, and Gary Clark Jr..Here’s the film’s synopsis:Newcomer Everett Osborne stars in the film, portraying Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, a future hall-of-famer who became one of the first Black basketball players to play in the NBA. At age 27, Sweetwater signed with the New York Knicks and played his first game on November 4th, 1950. He was already an all-star athlete who, at the time, played for an all-Black professional basketball team and during the off-season, also played first baseman in the Negro league baseball. Sweetwater is written and directed by Martin Guigui (Changing Hearts, Beneath the Darkness, The Bronx Bull), and it’s set to premiere in select US theaters on April 14, 2023.
