Transformers Animated Movie’s Cybertron Teased By Paramount Exec
Jun 16, 2023
Paramount Animation President Ramsey Naito teases what to expect from Cybertron in the upcoming animated film Transformers One. Set prior to the events of the live-action Transformers movies, Transformers One tells the story of how Optimus Prime and Megatron became enemies, forming the Autobots and the Decepticons. The film will also take place entirely on Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers.

Speaking with Deadline, Naito reveals details about Cybertron’s presentation in Transformers One. She explains what makes Cybertron perfect for an animated film while discussing different elements of Optimus Prime and Megatron’s conflict. Check out what Naito has to say below:
It is truly a resonant cast. It’s an origins story that tells the backstory of Megatron and Optimus, it’s really a brother-to-foe type of story. It takes place on Cybertron which is the planet that they all speak to and the planet we see in the live-action movies being destroyed. So here, being that it’s an origin and it’s when they are young, this planet is beautiful, alive, a spectacle, a personality and a character in itself.
What I understand fans have always been interested in is knowing more about their backstory and knowing about Cybertron; and in live-action, let’s face it, it would be a very hard thing to create. In animation, it’s a perfect thing to create because in animation everything is created.
Everything We Know About Transformers One
Directed by Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley, Transformers One will feature Thor star Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime. Starring opposite Hemsworth will be Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, best known for his roles in Godzilla vs. Kong and Eternals. Rounding out the cast is Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
Originally slated for July 2024, Transformers One’s release date was pushed back to September 13, 2024. While it’s unclear why the release date was pushed, it means the studio has more time to animate the movie, including the visuals of Cybertron before the rise of the Decepticons. While the film will focus on Optimus Prime and Megatron, it also has a chance to explore the world of Cybertron in ways unseen in the live-action Transformers movies.
With Cybertron only shown onscreen before the war between Autobots and Decepticons, Transformers One will be portraying events that have only been briefly touched on in the live-action series. There’s no telling what surprises are in store for the early days of Optimus Prime and Megatron’s conflict. However, it seems all will be revealed when Transformers One hits theaters in September 2024.
