Two Planned DCU Projects Remain a Mystery, Including James Gunn’s Favorite

Jun 3, 2023

James Gunn has hit the ground running full tilt at DC Studios since becoming both co-CEO and co-chair alongside Peter Safran, announcing an ambitiously stocked lineup of projects just to start things off in his new DCU. While many of them have since been scheduled and thoroughly covered, per a report from CBR, there are apparently two more projects that Gunn himself admitted have yet to be revealed. Even more compelling is his hint that one of those two projects will be his absolute favorite of the bunch.

Gunn reportedly revealed this new update at a recent press conference where he further discussed all of the studio’s upcoming plans. However, when it came to mentioning his so-called personal “favorite” project, Gunn stressed that he couldn’t even drop a hint about the idea of it. Essentially if he did, the smartest sleuths of the DC fanbase would quickly figure out what it is.

“There’s one thing I know is my favorite, one of my favorite projects of all of this. And it’s just so totally unique that the idea itself is giving away too much when it may not come out for two or three years. Also, with some other things, it’s kind of a choice. We have a director working on a really fantastic other project that may take him a little more time than some other people.”

So, with at least one project being kept under strict lock and key for now, Gunn continues to cleverly keep fans on their toes about how the remainder of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters will play out.

The Chapter One Timeline So Far

Chapter One of James Gunn’s DC universe is slated to kick off in 2025 with one of the biggest projects of the film portion of the lineup, Superman: Legacy, which will be written by Gunn himself. Following that will be Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which has been confirmed to feature Bruce Wayne’s son Damian, aka Robin. The cohesion of these two films has been leading to early rumors among fans that we could one day possibly get a “Super Sons” movie, based around the sons of Batman and Superman taking up the mantle for their respective fathers. Regardless, next in line will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, followed by The Authority and then Swamp Thing. All of these films so far are confirmed.

As for the TV series half of the lineup, we will see an all-new Green Lantern series, appropriately titled Lanterns, that fans can only hope will finally break the perpetual jinx over the character and ease Ryan Reynold’s conscience. After that will be the animated series Creature Commandos, which will see the return of eccentric character Weasel from The Suicide Squad (2021). Waller will of course see the return of Viola Davis as iron-fisted Amanda Waller. Rounding out the series lineup is Booster Gold and the Wonder Woman prequel titled Paradise Lost.

Whether Gunn’s two mystery projects are films or series or both is still under wraps as well, along with where they’ll fall within this established timeline.
