The Super Mario Bros. Movie cast hilariously tricks Jack Black into dressing in character as Bowser during a joint talk show appearance.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie cast hilariously pranks Jack Black into wearing a Bowser costume on a talk show. The latest adaptation of the Nintendo video game franchise is from Illumination, the same animation studio responsible for Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which releases in theaters on April 5, features an ensemble voice cast led by Chris Pratt as the titular plumber who must defeat the dragon turtle known as Bowser, voiced by Black.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie voice cast recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote the animated movie, and they hilariously tricked Black into wearing a Bowser costume on the talk show. Watch the video below:

As Pratt, Keegan-Michael Key, and Charlie Day sit down, Clarkson notices that Black is missing, leading the host to head backstage to find Black sulking in a Bowser outfit since he was pranked into being the only one in costume, though Clarkson was able to coax him into joining his co-stars on stage.

The Super Mario Movie Cast Is One Of Its Biggest Strengths (And Faults)

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has assembled a star-studded voice cast to help bring its iconic Nintendo characters to life, some of which are present on the talk show. This includes Charlie Day as Luigi, Key as Toad, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike. Black’s performance as Bowser has also been met with much praise. While many of these castings have gone over very well, there is one that has caused a major casting controversy.

Pratt’s casting as Mario has received much criticism because of the actor’s non-Italian background. Once The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer actually revealed Pratt’s Mario voice, the criticism online only increased as many felt he wasn’t even trying to replicate the character’s voice or do anything beyond speaking in his regular voice. While this conversation has seemed to dominate the discussion surrounding The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it still features plenty of vocal performances to look forward to, such as Jack Black as Bowser.
