‘Wednesday’ Loses #1 Spot on Netflix Chart to Biggest Loser Documentary

Aug 19, 2025

Wednesday’s debut season on Netflix in 2022 gave the streamer another hit show. Season 1 quickly became popular, eventually rising in the top ten of Netflix’s most-watched original programming. The Addams Family character-focused series brought millions of eyes to a classic childhood favorite, first portrayed by Lisa Loring in 1964. Now, Jenna Ortega holds the honor of playing Wednesday Addams and has done a great job of bringing her to life. The anticipation for Wednesday Season 2 remained high despite fans waiting nearly three years, only for it to be split into two parts. With part one (four episodes) debuting on August 6, 2025, the top spot it held on Netflix’s chart has been taken away very quickly by a new documentary showing the reality of The Biggest Loser. Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser is a documentary giving viewers insight into one of the most popular reality TV competition series. With 256 episodes produced over 18 seasons, The Biggest Loser was a weight-loss competition that garnered a lot of criticism from physicians and nutritionists. Yet, millions of viewers continuously tuned in to see who would be crowned champion, or, as the official title suggests, “The Biggest Loser”. Netflix’s documentary premiered on August 15, and it’s already trending on social media while holding the top spot on the streamer’s chart. The synopsis reads:
Takes an inside look at the making of the hit reality TV competition, exploring the good, the bad, and the complicated. Featuring interviews with former contestants, trainers, producers, and health professionals, the documentary examines the show’s approach to transformation, the support systems in place, and the unique challenges of filming reality television.
The Biggest Loser premiered on October 19, 2004, on NBC and ran until February 22, 2016. Each season was the beginning of the 30-week competition with a “weigh-in” to determine the contestants’ starting weight, which served as the baseline for deciding who lost the most at the end. They’re then grouped into teams of three, with each group wearing different colored shirts. In every episode, there are challenges and temptations (high-calorie food) that the contestants must get through to make it to the next episode. Some of those challenges include: Reward challenge, initial workout, last chance workout, last chance challenges, and more. USA Network attempted to bring the show back in 2020. Physicians and nutritionists revealed that the show had contestants losing a dangerous amount of weight per week.
‘Wednesday’ Season 2’s Rotten Tomatoes Score

Wednesday and Agnes in Wednesday Season 2
Netflix

Sometimes it’s hard to emulate the success of a prior season, especially when that was one of the biggest seasons released of any Netflix original. Expectations were high from fans and critics, and more than two years on from Wednesday’s inaugural season, fans believe that’s more than enough time to create another masterpiece. Although only the first four episodes of Wednesday’s sophomore season are available to watch (until September 3rd), it still has a high Rotten Tomatoes score of 84%. Many critics praise the storytelling and performances in the series, highlighting that playing Wednesday Addams is Jenna Ortega’s best career role. Despite that, its short stay at the top of the Netflix chart could suggest that many fans are now waiting for the whole season to be available on the platform, or the hype around Wednesday has proven too much for the series to match.
