Home Streaming Wednesday Surpasses Dahmer as No. 2 Most Popular English-Language Series on Netflix
Wednesday is second only to Stranger Things 4 when it comes to the most-watched English-language shows on Netflix in one month’s time.

Netflix’s reboot of The Addams Family has been a monumental success, as Wednesday has drawn in extremely high viewership since its November premiere. Directed in part by Tim Burton, the series stars Jenna Ortega as an older Wednesday Addams investigating the mysteries of Nevermore Academy. While reboots can often be met with disdain from fans, that wasn’t the case for Wednesday, which continues to pull in high numbers amid very positive reviews.
Per Variety, Wednesday has now surpassed 1 billion hours viewed within one month’s time. This makes the show only the third in Netflix’s history to do so behind Squid Game and Stranger Things 4. By shooting past previous No. 2 spot holder Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which garnered 856.2 million hours streamed in a month, Wednesday also falls just behind Stranger Things 4 as the second most popular English-language series on Netflix. There’s still another week for Wednesday to get those numbers even higher to possibly take the No. 1 spot, but it currently sits at more than 352 million streaming hours behind Stranger Things 4.

Stranger Things 4 also has some advantages over Wednesday which should be noted. The former is the fourth season of a series that’s been popular and established for years, having spent its first three seasons building a larger and larger fan base ahead of season 4. Wednesday may be inspired by The Addams Family, but it’s still a brand new show that didn’t come with any guarantees that it’d be a hit. Stranger Things 4 is also around 13 hours, compared to less than seven hours for Wednesday, meaning more streaming will be required to finish Stranger Things. The Variety report notes that Wednesday has also been played in more households overall, reaching around 150 million households; Stranger Things 4 was estimated to be viewed in around 104 million households in its first month.

Why Won’t Netflix Renew Wednesday?
Netflix
Given all of this success, renewing Wednesday should be a no-brainer. As of now, however, a renewal order hasn’t come in. It could be that Netflix wants to let this month play out before announcing a renewal, or maybe a second season is in fact in the works with negotiations with cast and crew still ongoing. In any case, the show certainly seems more likely that not to be renewed at this point, but fans are still anxiously awaiting for that news to be made official.
You can stream the first season of Wednesday on Netflix.
