Will Smith Performs Summertime at Bel-Air Season 3 Peacock BBQ

Aug 4, 2024

Will Smith got the crowd at Peacock’s Summer BBQ, in celebration of Bel-Air‘s season 3 premiere, in the summertime mood with a surprise performance.

At the event held at the Universal Studios Backlot in Los Angeles on Thursday, Bel-Air star Coco Jones took the stage, performing her new song, “Here We Go.” She then invited Smith, who serves as an executive producer on the drama reimagining of his hit ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, onstage for a duet of his 1991 hit, “Summertime.”

“Come on, come on, sing!,” exclaimed Smith on the mic during Jones’ vocals, with fans gleefully complying and taking out their phones to record the special moment. Following the performance, the cast took the stage to preview season 3 and share some of their memories from bonding on set.

Smith also joined Bel-Air stars Jabari Banks, Akira Akbar and Olly Sholotan to make their own version of the “Just give me my money” TikTok trend. Besides Jones, Banks, Akbar and Sholotan, cast members Adrian Holmes, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones and Simone Joy Jones were in attendance. They were joined by co-executive producer Morgan Cooper, as well as showrunner, co-executive producer and writer Carla Banks Waddles.

Besides Smith’s surprise set, attendees enjoyed food from Trejos Tacos, Earle’s on Crenshaw and Eagle Rock BBQ. There was also a Blackccess Flea Market (named after the term coined on the show by Will and Carlton), featuring vendors as well as “Blackccess” merch. Other activities included yard games, photo opps and a set by DJ Meel.

Season 3 of Bel-Air premieres on Aug. 15.

Smith has seen a major comeback following the backlash from slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022. Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which premiered in June, became a blockbuster hit, exceeding $100 million at the domestic box office within the first 10 days; it has earned $395.7 million in total to date worldwide. June also saw the first award show performance by Smith since the Oscars incident, performing his new song, “You Can Make It” at the BET Awards.

It appears that Smith is making his official return to music. In July, he signed with the independent frontline label SLANG, led by music executive Rene McLean, the partner and founding advisor of Influence Media Partners.
