Woman of Tomorrow’s Lobo Is “Dead On”

Mar 26, 2025

Jason Momoa’s casting as Lobo might be perfect in terms of his personality and physique, but a lot of fans are still eager to see what the actor will actually look like in the character’s costume and prosthetics, and how close to the comics his iteration will be. Momoa will bring the charismatic DC Comics anti-hero/villain to life in live-action in 2026’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which stars Milly Alcock as the titular hero and cousin of Superman (David Corenswet). You could argue that many fans are more hyped about seeing Momoa’s Lobo than they are the actual movie. But, the film still needs to overcome the hurdle of the character’s live-action design. Thankfully, Jason Momoa promises that we won’t be disappointed.
During an interview with ScreenRant to promote A Minecraft Movie, Momoa promised that his version of Lobo would stick very closely to the one found in the pages of various DC Comics. The actor began by reiterating that he is a lifelong fan of the character. “This is the role I’ve always wanted to play,” he said. “That’s the comic I loved, so I’m really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It’s pretty big.”
And while Momoa didn’t go into a lot of detail about his portrayal of Lobo, he did tease that fans will be extremely happy with what they see in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow:

“I don’t want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I’ll say the bike’s really cool.”

Lobo made his DC Comics debut in Omega Men #3 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in 1983. The character is an intergalactic bounty hunter who works for the highest bidder, and rides through space on his motorbike, while drinking and smoking cigars. No wonder Momoa believes he and Lobo are a match made in heaven.

DC Comics

It’s all well and good that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will mark Lobo’s DC Universe debut. But, for how long will he actually even be on the screen? With production on Supergirl still ongoing, Momoa couldn’t provide a definite answer to that even if he wanted. The actor promised that Lobo would definitely be in the film, but that the movie ultimately belongs to its titular heroine, Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. “It’s her movie, so it’s great,” he said. “I just come in for a little bit.”
While he may not be top of the call sheet for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, fans are hoping that his debut in the movie will be the first of many appearances for Lobo in the wider DC Universe. In the comics, Lobo has gone toe-to-toe with — and even fought alongside — countless heroes. The possibilities of where he could feasibly show up in the future are nearly endless. But, for many, his debut will hopefully lead to one inevitability: a standalone Lobo movie.
