Former “X-Men 97” showrunner and writer Beau DeMayo is hitting back at Marvel Television. The showrunner was fired from “X-Men 97” under mysterious circumstances earlier this year, right as the first season was set to air, and he had already completed writing and overseeing season two. But DeMayo now alleges that Marvel has stripped him of all his season two writing credits.

In a Twitter post from yesterday, where DeMayo is very active, he says he was notified that he would be stripped of his season two writing credits when he posted fan art of himself on Instagram.
“Above is #XMen fan-art I posted on Instagram for Gay Pride in June,” he wrote. ‘On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post. Sadly, this is the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while on working on #XMen97 and #Blade.”
DeMayo followed that up with saying he would “take a step back from social media to find a safer space for me to be out, proud, and nerdy.”
However, less than a few hours later, when news reports came out, DeMayo fired back. “The truth will be revealed. After their Disney Plus disaster, Marvel wants to mislead with alleged contract breaches over tweets. It’s tragic it’s come to this but unsurprising. Stay tuned.”
Marvel for their part has always stayed mum on the reasons of the firing, but when DeMayo aired the dirty laundry between them, Marvel stared to fire back themselves.
In a statement given to press, a Marvel spokesman said, “Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”
Additionally, a source at Marvel told various outlets that the investigation against DeMayo involved “sexual misconduct.”
Frankly, that’s the rumor that’s been going around for months and one that we’ve heard numerous times, too. Several outlets who have heard it have suggested, “Do you really wanna go here?” If the truth gets out, DeMayo will look even worse. One reporter, Jeff Sneider, went as far as saying he had new details on the story and would spill the tea if Marvel and DeMayo didn’t get back to him in 12 hours.
“Marvel rarely comments on matter such as this so lines must have been crossed tonight,” THR writer Borys Kit said about DeMayo’s public Twitter comments.
Another person, a Scenic Artist and apparent member of the Art Directors Guild brought up past rumors of DeMayo being fired from Netflix’s “The Witcher” series. “Welp, considering he was fired from The Witcher for being emotionally and physically abusive to other staff members, and the practice ~allegedly~ didn’t stop. I’m going to go with this, ain’t it, chief.” Perhaps more will be revealed today through Sneider’s update. “X-Men 97” season two was recently revealed at Disney’s D23 Expo. While no release date or timeframe of release was revealed, it was one of five animated series that Marvel said would come out in the next 18 months.
